Are you a detail-driven, numbers-loving professional looking to bring your accounting skills to a mission-driven organization? Shalom House is looking for an experienced and motivated Accountant to join our team—and we’re offering a $2,000 sign-on bonus to welcome you aboard!

In this key role, you’ll support our financial operations and help ensure that our services continue to run smoothly and efficiently, so we can stay focused on what matters most supporting the well-being of the individuals and communities we serve.

As our Accountant , you’ll go beyond spreadsheets and numbers. You’ll be a key part of ensuring our organization runs smoothly and efficiently, so our frontline teams can focus on supporting the people who rely on us. Your expertise will directly support our ability to serve the community with care, compassion, and consistency.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Handling accounts payable processes and maintaining accurate records
• Gathering and compiling financial data for reporting and audits
• Ensuring timely, accurate documentation of financial transactions
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Collaborating with team members to meet deadlines and support cross-department initiatives
• Upholding financial compliance and integrity in alignment with GAAP and nonprofit standards

What You Bring

• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field
• At least 1 year of experience working with GAAP (nonprofit experience is a big plus!)
• Comfort with audits and financial reporting processes
• Impeccable attention to detail and organizational skills
• A collaborative, team-first mindset
• A passion for using your skills to support a mission that matters

What We Offer

• Salary: $32.05/hour
• Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday (8:00 AM–4:00 PM) with some flexibility
• Location: Portland, ME 04102 ( Must be able to reliably commute or relocate )
