One of our clients located in Annapolis, MD is looking for an Accounting Clerk. This is a temporary to permanent opportunity with lots of growth potential!
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for receiving, recording, and reconciling payments for water/sewer utilities, real estate taxes, personal property taxes, and other municipal fees.
- Receive and process payments for utility bills, property taxes, and other municipal charges via cash, check, money order, credit/debit, and electronic methods.
- Verify payment amounts, validate account numbers, and issue receipts.
- Balance cash drawer daily and reconcile all transactions in accordance with City finance procedures.
- Prepare deposits and maintain accurate financial records for audit purposes.
- Identify and report discrepancies, errors, or suspected fraudulent activity.
- Provide prompt and courteous assistance to residents regarding their bills, payment options, due dates, penalties, and account status.
- Follow all City finance policies, internal control procedures, and audit requirements.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience handling cash and financial transactions.
- Experience working in municipal government, public utilities, or tax collection preferred.
- Knowledge of general accounting principles or payment processing procedures.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to perform accurate math calculations and maintain detailed records.
