Overview We are a Construction/Contractor firm seeking a highly organized, process-driven Accounting Manager to take ownership of the company’s accounting department and function. This role is ideal for someone who excels at running an accounting team, creating structure, improving efficiency, and cleaning up existing procedures, while maintaining accurate financial reporting and compliance. The Accounting Manager will be hands-on and actively involved in improving how accounting work is done and managing the team.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team to ensure high performance and professional growth
Supervise daily accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger
Establish clear goals, performance expectations, and accountability standards
Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback
Foster a collaborative, ethical, and results-driven team culture
Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy across all accounts
Lead month-end and year-end close, improving timelines and consistency
Prepare and review financial statements and management reports
Evaluate, restructure, and document accounting procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy
Establish and enforce clear accounting workflows, controls, and documentation
Oversee AP, AR, payroll postings, and reconciliations
Manage sales tax, use tax, payroll tax, and other required filings
Coordinate with external CPAs for tax returns, audits, and reviews
Review vendor payments and customer invoicing for accuracy and compliance
Identify system improvements and optimize workflows within QuickBooks Online
Train and support accounting staff or outsourced partners on updated procedures
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar field
5+ years of progressive accounting experience
Prior Controller or senior accounting leadership experience
Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
Demonstrated experience improving or rebuilding accounting processes
Strong knowledge of GAAP
Advanced Proficiency in QuickBooks Online (required)
Experience managing GL, close, and financial reporting
Solid understanding of sales tax and use tax compliance
Preferred Experience
CPA (Certified Public Accountant) License
Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar field
Construction and/or project-based accounting
Job costing and T&M billing
Multi-state, tribal, federal tax exposure
