Job Summary
The Accounting Manager will oversee and manage the financial operations of the architecture firm. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulations, and efficient management of budgets and project costs. The ideal candidate will have experience in accounting within a project-driven environment and a strong understanding of architecture or design firm operations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
Manage the firm’s accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
Prepare and present accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Oversee cash flow management, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operational needs.
Manage project accounting, including tracking budgets, billable hours, and costs.
Ensure compliance with GAAP and other applicable accounting standards.
Budgeting and Forecasting
Develop and maintain annual budgets in collaboration with leadership.
Provide financial projections and forecasts to support strategic decision-making.
Monitor and analyze budget performance, highlighting variances and trends.
Project Cost Management
Track and report on project profitability, ensuring alignment with budgets and contracts.
Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate allocation of expenses and billable hours.
Oversee the preparation of invoices and coordinate with clients for timely payments.
Compliance and Audits
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including tax filings.
Coordinate and manage annual audits and respond to auditor inquiries.
Maintain records and systems in compliance with document retention policies.
Team Leadership
Supervise and mentor the accounting team, ensuring professional development and high performance.
Develop and implement efficient workflows for the accounting department.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design and operations, to support financial transparency and goals.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA designation preferred.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within an architecture, engineering, or design firm.
Strong knowledge of project-based accounting systems.
Skills and Competencies
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Deltek, Unanet, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with team members, clients, and vendors.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
