    Make an Impact That Matters Second Harvest of the Greater Valley is a growing nonprofit dedicated to fighting hunger and strengthening our community. We are building strong systems to support long-term sustainability and responsible stewardship of resources. We are seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager who takes ownership, values accuracy, and enjoys building organized financial processes in a collaborative environment. This is currently a one-person accounting department, with the opportunity to help shape and grow the function as the organization expands. Position Overview The Accounting Manager is responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting of the organization. This role ensures accurate financial records, strong internal controls, and timely reporting to leadership and the Board. The position works closely with the CEO, Executive Team, Board Treasurer, and department leaders to support sound financial decision-making. Responsibilities: Accounting Daily Operations • Manage full-cycle accounting including A/P, A/R, deposits, and cash management • Perform bank and credit card reconciliations • Maintain the general ledger and reconcile all balance sheet accounts • Prepare adjusting, reclassification, and allocation journal entries • Track fixed assets and depreciation • Reconcile payroll to the general ledger • Lead monthly and year-end close processes Financial Reporting Prepare monthly financial statements: • Income Statement (PL) • Balance Sheet • Statement of Cash Flows • Prepare department-level PL reports • Analyze budget-to-actual variances • Provide financial reports and summaries for leadership and Board review Budgeting Planning • Assist with the annual budgeting process • Support department budget development • Provide basic financial forecasting and projections as needed Compliance Controls • Maintain and improve internal controls • Coordinate annual audit preparation • Support preparation of Form 990 and required filings • Monitor compliance with grant and funding requirements • Maintain a compliance calendar Systems & Process Improvement • Improve accounting workflows and documentation • Help strengthen financial policies and procedures • Support system improvements and future scalability • Participate in planning for future accounting staff growth Collaboration • Partner with HR on payroll oversight • Work with Development and Operations on grant reporting • Support department leaders with financial information and reporting Qualifications: • 5+ years of accounting experience • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and financial statements • Experience preparing financials from a trial balance • Experience with account reconciliations and month-end close • Proficiency in Excel and accounting software • Ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial staff • Nonprofit experience is helpful but not required Compensation: $75,000 to start
