Description of Duties:
The Accounting Specialist – Payroll Taxes is responsible for managing and ensuring the accurate processing, reporting, and reconciliation of payroll tax obligations. This role supports the accounting and payroll functions by maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, assisting with payroll processing, and resolving payroll tax issues. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, knowledge of payroll tax laws, and experience working with payroll systems and accounting software.
Required Skills:
- Prepare, review, and reconcile payroll tax filings (federal, state, and local).
- Ensure timely and accurate payment of payroll tax liabilities.
- Monitor changes in payroll tax regulations and ensure company compliance.
- Reconcile payroll tax accounts to the general ledger on a regular basis.
- Assist with quarterly and annual payroll tax reporting (e.g., Forms 941, 940, W-2, state filings).
- Research and resolve payroll tax notices and discrepancies with tax agencies.
- Support payroll processing and verify accuracy of payroll data related to taxes.
- Maintain payroll tax records and documentation for audits and internal controls.
- Collaborate with HR, payroll, and finance teams to ensure accurate employee tax setup and reporting.
- Assist with year-end payroll processes and reporting requirements.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Experience in payroll accounting, payroll tax, or related accounting role.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
- Experience with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex, Workday, or similar).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage deadlines and handle confidential information responsibly.

Working Schedule and Travel:
Onsite | Monday through Friday 8am – 5pm EST
Education:
Associates degree or equivalent experience.
