Accounts Payable/Payroll Specialist
Opening Date: June 6, 2025
Salary Range: $27.11/hour to $32.21/hour
Plus longevity Steps at 10, 15 and 20 Years

Valley Transit provides “employee-only” fully paid premiums for medical, dental, life and long-term disability through the Public Employees Benefits Board (PEBB). Qualifying dependents may be enrolled at the employee’s expense. A $24,000 Basic Life insurance policy is provided through the Washington Counties Insurance Fund. Employer and employee contributions are made to the State of Washington Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). Employees have the option to enroll in the State of Washington Department of Retirement System’s deferred Compensation program. Employees also have the option to enroll in additional benefits which include Employee-Paid Long-Term Disability, Employee-Paid Flexible Benefits through American Family Life Assurance Company (AFLAC) and additional Employee-Paid Life Insurance coverage through MetLife. Valley Transit grants annual paid vacation to regular full-time employees, which starts at 8 hours per month and increases with continuous employment. All employees are eligible to accrue Washington Paid Sick Leave at a rate of 1 hour for every 40 hours worked, in addition, full-time employees will accrue Valley Transit Paid Sick Leave at a rate of .02115 per eligible paid hour. Employees will also receive eight (8) paid holidays and four (4) paid floating holidays each calendar year. The number of paid floating holidays increases with continuous employment.
NATURE OF POSITION: Processes bi-weekly payroll in accordance with company polices, labor agreements, and federal and state regulations; maintains accurate payroll records, tracks payroll data, prepares monthly and quarterly payroll reports. Processes vendor payables into automated accounts payable system; prepares journal entries, processes expense reports; provides support on special projects.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of three years of accounts payable/payroll or related experience.

Accounts Payable/Payroll Specialist Job Description
Department: Administration
Reports To: Finance Manager
FSLA Status: Nonexempt hourly employee

Position Summary
Processes bi-weekly payroll in accordance with company policies, labor agreements, and federal and
state regulations; maintains accurate payroll records, tracks payroll data, prepares monthly and
quarterly payroll reports. Processes vendor payables into automated accounts payable system;
prepares journal entries, processes expense reports; provides support on special projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Review all invoices for appropriate documentation and approval, code invoices for payment and
enter data into Fleet-Net accounting software.
• Process invoices for payment including mailing of checks or online electronic payment
processing
• Complete timely investigation and resolve vendor inquiries in a professional manner. Reconcile
vendor statements, research and correct discrepancies on a monthly basis.
• Audit and process monthly recurring bills (i.e. credit card, health insurance).
• Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately in accordance with company policy
and accepted accounting practices.
• Maintain database integrity of AP master files in the Fleet-Net accounting software.
• Assist in processing new hires, terminated employees and changes to current employees in the
Fleet-Net payroll system.
• Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely with
reconciliation prior to transmission and validation of confirming reports.
• Execute Fleet-Net automated time and attendance processing and interface with payroll
module.
• Research employee requests relating to payroll and leave balances.
• Perform daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly/yearly tasks relating to payroll.
• Provide pleasant and accurate trip planning services to transit customers.
• Answer phone and sell passes and tickets to transit customers when needed.
• Assist in completing administrative duties as assigned by the Finance Manager.
• Perform all safety and health responsibilities as detailed in the Public Transit Agency Safety Plan
(PTASP).
• Other duties as required.

• Ability to maintain strict adherence to security and confidentiality of information.
• Proficient in Excel, Word, 10-key by touch, type 45+ wpm.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and materials. Knowledge of
applicable accounts payable/general ledger systems and procedures, financial chart of accounts,
and corporate procedures.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
• Ability to maintain a pleasant demeanor while communicating with employees, vendors, and
customers.
• Ability to work independently and with a team with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
• Ability to perform mathematical computations such as percentages, fractions, addition,
subtraction, multiplication and division quickly and accurately.
• Ability to use office equipment such as copy machines, fax machines, and scanners.
Education and/or Experience
• Minimum high school education or GED required. An AA degree is a plus.
• Minimum three years of accounts payable/payroll or related experience.

Contribution Cap and Employer Pooling Assistance. A $24,000 Basic Life insurance policy is provided
