    Accounts Payable Specialist – Construction Industry

    Location: East Syracuse, NY
    Job Type: Contract to Hire / Full-Time

    Seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Accounts Payable Specialist to join our team. This role is critical in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payments, maintaining strong vendor relationships, and supporting our finance team in a fast-paced construction environment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Review and process purchase orders, check requests, and supporting documents for accuracy and compliance with internal policies and tax requirements

    • Match vendor invoices with purchase orders and receiving documents to ensure completeness

    • Process payments to subcontractors in accordance with contract terms and retainage agreements

    • Accurately apply vendor credits and ensure cost coding aligns with project and contract numbers

    • Enter accounts payable data into accounting systems with proper coding and documentation

    • Investigate and resolve account discrepancies, serving as a liaison between the accounting department and vendors

    • Respond promptly and professionally to vendor inquiries

    • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls

    • Cross-train in payroll processing and serve as a backup as needed

    • Support general office functions including filing, answering phones, and managing office supply orders

    Qualifications:

    • 2+ years of accounts payable or general accounting experience (construction or project-based industry preferred)

    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial documentation

    • Familiarity with cost coding and contract accounting

    • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; experience with accounting software a plus

    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
