    Acorns is seeking a licensed Series 27 Assistant Financial & Operations Principal to maintain the books and records of the broker-dealer and investment advisor subsidiaries, ensure the accuracy of the financial statements, comply with applicable net capital rules, and make timely submission of all financial regulatory reports. This role will report directly to the Head of Accounting & Business Operations and work to develop and implement new processes to help address risks while allowing for scalability.

    This role has the option to be remote or based in our Irvine or New York offices.

    WITHIN 1 MONTH, YOU WILL:

    • Introduce yourself and become integrated with the Accounting team
    • Develop relationships with the Compliance, Invest Products and Invest Operations teams
    • Learn the current processes for performing all of the day-to-day record-keeping and regulatory reporting functions at the broker-dealer and advisor subsidiaries and maintain standard operating procedures documentation on all processes, inclusive of the design and implementation and operating effectiveness of controls. 
    • Understand the relationships between the Acorns corporate entities and how the broker-dealer and advisor entities interact with each other and the other entities
    • Become familiar with the history of Acorns regulatory and financial audit examinations

    WITHIN 3 MONTHS, YOU WILL:

    • Maintain and verify the books and records derived from the accounting and customer databases
    • Manage the preparation and review all regulatory filings, ensuring accuracy of the information reported and timely filing by all deadlines
    • Assess all processes for best-practice improvements and continued regulatory compliance and implement adjustments to processes and procedures to strengthen identified areas of risk and control gaps as needed
    • Be responsible for performance or oversight of all day-to-day FinOp responsibilities

    WITHIN 6 MONTHS, YOU WILL:

    • Act as subject matter expert on all Accounting, Financial and Operational processes and requirements for the broker-dealer, including providing training and guidance to the Accounting, Customer Support, Compliance, Engineering, Product and Operations teams for existing and new products as needed
    • Be able to design and implement processes and procedures to continue to make the department more efficient and scalable while maintaining compliance 
    • Be the primary point of contact with internal and external financial and regulatory auditors as it relates to the financial operations of the broker-dealer and investment adviser
    • Provide input on design, development and improvement of existing internal systems and responding to the challenges commensurate with the changing environment of financial compliance.
    • Assist in the further development and application of proprietary financial reporting and customer ledger software
    • Assist in the identification and development of new products and the infrastructure, policies and services to meet those needs
    • Complete special projects as needed and other duties assigned

    WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO ACORNS:

    • BS in Business, Accounting or Finance with an overall GPA of 3.0 or above
    • 5+ years of retail broker-dealer experience, working as or for a Series 27 licensed FinOP
    • Series 27 or 28 license required
    • Series 7 and 24 strongly preferred
    • Strong understanding and background with internal controls over compliance
    • Experience with large volumes of data and transactions preferred
    • Excellent written and oral communications skills
    • Ability to problem solve and provide solutions
    • Self-starter with ability to work independently, but unafraid to ask questions
    • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
    • Driven to learn fast, be creative, and win as a team
    • Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet, professional manner
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
