    Job Description

    Action Staffing Solutions Government Division has several opening for a General Clerk professionals. The location for that the work performed at will be Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in Fort Sam Houston, TX.

    Duties will be as follows:

    • Receive visitors and provide assistance as appropriate by responding to inquiries from various sources regarding location of patients, hospital clinics, wards, offices, visiting hours, and facility services by providing informational material and directional guidance.
    • Receive telephone calls, take messages, and route or deliver to appropriate office staff member. Utilize and manage communication pager or intercom system to page staff members. Answer telephone calls and take messages for the Command Suite telephone numbers during/after duty hours, weekends, and holidays. Monitor a mega system and report to Administrative Office of the Day (AOD).
    • Comply with the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act, Joint Commission, and other appropriate governing directives regarding the management and release of medical information.
    • Assist with faxing, filing, copying, scanning, collating, and binding of materials. Generate and format reports, forms, and listings by sorting, selecting and merging documents. Type a variety of materials, reports, and/or reports. Ensure usage of correct spelling, format, and grammar. Help in maintaining designated forms in stock for office usage.
    • Maintain current on-call listings, alert rosters, and directories on designated offices and agencies.
    • Provide temporary security badges for pre-registered vendors.
    • Furnish pamphlets and brochures relative to the various programs and support activities.
    • Monitor the Government-owned wheelchairs at each information desk, to include logging sheets, storage, lock up procedures, and provide occasional minimal assistance to patients. Report breakage and safety issues regarding wheelchairs.
    • Ensure that not more than three wheelchairs are placed side-by-side within the front foyer.
    • Align the wheelchairs neatly.
    • Ensure that both brakes are engaged on each wheelchair (to prevent the chair from moving while transferring into the wheelchair).
    • Ensure that both foot rests are folded away to the sides of each wheelchair (to provide direct access to the seat before sitting in the wheelchair).
    • Issue and receive keys to appropriate personnel, as well as maintain the log required to ensure accountability of keys at all times.
    • Maintain log and inventory of emergency meals with Nutrition Services.
    • Monitor and report safety and facility violations/defects to appropriate hospital staff.
    • Record information relative to changes in physical location and/or telephone numbers and maps of offices, personnel, and /or organizations made available to both information desks and the Central Communications Room.
    • Provide hospital overhead paging services regarding announcements, pager calls and medical emergency codes from the Central Communications room in accordance with established procedures. Overhead announcements are also provided for Code Blue, Code Red, Code Pink, traumas, fire, and generator drills.
    • Provide dispatching and monitoring of Code Blue calls. Receive requests either by a telephone call to the Central Communications Room or an Automatic Nurse Call System for Code Blue calls. Perform routine checks daily of the Code Blue Pager test.
    • Receive instructions for emergencies/accidents and provide dispatching and monitoring of trauma pager calls. Also receive Code Red (fire) hazardous material spill calls. Request specific information from the caller and pass it on to the appropriate authority. Coordinate with the Safety Officer, Facilities, and Security in emergency situations.
    • Directly receive by a ring down method any calls from hospital elevators to the Central Communications Room from individuals having trouble with the elevator.
    • Maintain a current listing of pager numbers for BAMC physicians and staff members; provide pager numbers to callers who require this information.
    • Release overseas control numbers to authorized individuals and maintain a log of required accountability information.
    • Perform general clerical support services in conduct of Information Desk operations, assist and/or connect translation services.
    • Perform preventive maintenance on government equipment are fully functional to include: video remote interpreter units, code pagers and all other equipment. Create work order for any equipment that is not functional.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or GED/Some College
    • 2 years’ experience in an office setting
    • 2 years' experience in customer service
    • Must be able to pass Federal Background Check
    • Advanced knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook)
    •  Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) 
    • Resourcefulness, initiative, and skill to function in a fast-paced environment.
    • Attention to detail in goal/task accomplishment with minimal oversight.
    • Professionalism and the ability to interact effectively with others
