Active Resources is a US-based metallurgical coal company with operations that will include surface and highwall mining as well as underground mines.  We feature a large reserve base of high quality mid-vol and high-vol metallurgical coal strategically located to meet important and increasing demand.  Our company is growing at a fast pace and needs to add to the already incredible team to maintain our excellence.  

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

The Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer and supervises the accounting and finance staff. The successful Controller will enjoy working in a fun and fast-paced environment and is able to deliver results under tight deadlines. 

• Manage all accounting operations and required financial reporting 

• Manage the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results 

• Coordinate and prepare internal and external financial statements 

• Coordinate activities of external auditors 

• Provide management with information vital to the decision-making process 

• Manage the budget process 

• Assess current accounting operations, offer recommendations for improvement and implement new processes 

• Evaluate accounting and internal control systems including appropriateness and effectiveness of accounting policies and procedures 

• Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed 

• Develop and monitor business performance metrics 

• Oversee regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance 

• Hire, train and mentor skilled accounting staff

WHAT YOU'LL BRING: 

• Thorough knowledge of GAAP  

• Experience in consolidated financial reporting  

• Strong background in all areas of accounting, including public company reporting 

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or another closely related field 

• 7-10 years of experience in increasingly responsible accounting or finance positions including Controller or Assistant Controller 

• Experience in public accounting and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) certification is strongly desired 

• Experience with IFRS is strongly desired 

• Team-player mentality  

• Positive attitude 

• Mining experience is a plus
