    Job Description

    The Activities Assistant's assist in planning, organizing, and implementing recreational, social, cultural, and therapeutic activities for residents of the Oglala Sioux Lakota Nursing Home. This position plays an important role in enhancing residents’ quality of life by encouraging participation, promoting social interaction, and supporting residents’ emotional, physical, and mental well-being in a compassionate and respectful environment.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Assist with planning and conducting individual and group activities for residents.
    • Encourage resident participation and provide one-on-one support when needed.
    • Assist residents to and from activities as appropriate.
    • Support special events, holiday celebrations, cultural activities, outings, and recreational programs.
    • Maintain activity areas, supplies, and equipment in a clean and organized manner.
    • Observe residents’ interests, needs, and abilities and report concerns or changes to the Activities Director or nursing staff.
    • Document resident attendance and participation as required.
    • Foster a positive, engaging, and respectful atmosphere for residents, families, and visitors.
    • Follow all facility policies, safety procedures, infection control standards, and resident rights guidelines.
    • Work collaboratively with nursing staff, therapy departments, dietary, and other team members to support resident-centered care.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED preferred.
    • Must provide current immunization/vaccination records in accordance with facility and healthcare regulations.
    • Two Forms of Identification
    • Indian Preference (Tribal ID)
    • Experience working in long-term care, healthcare, activities, recreation, customer service, or a related field is preferred.
    • Compassionate, patient, and dependable with a genuine interest in working with elders.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Creative, energetic, and adaptable in planning and leading activities.
    • Basic computer and documentation skills preferred.
    • Must be able to pass background screening and drug testing requirements.

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
    • Ability to push wheelchairs and transport residents safely.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

    Working Conditions

    Work is performed in a long-term care environment with frequent interaction with residents, families, staff, and visitors. May require occasional evening, weekend, or holiday activities depending on facility needs.
