    Construction Laborer Apprentice - Military Veteran

    Adaptive Construction Solutions (ACS) is looking for individuals interested in starting a career as a Construction Laborer in Austin. Candidates must be based in the Greater Houston area and willing to relocate to Austin. Construction laborers perform services such as maintaining the job site, moving materials, and supporting other tradespeople.

    Upon placement into a full-time job, apprentices begin employment by participating in up to 3-4 weeks of orientation and craft training. Apprentices are paid wages during this extended orientation/training. Training is sponsored by employers and the workforce system.

    What is Apprenticeship?

    The apprenticeship model is leading the way in preparing American workers to compete in today’s economy. Apprenticeship allows an individual to earn while they learn. It includes:

    1. Paid Job: Earn a competitive wage from day one with incremental pay increases as relevant skills are obtained.
    2. Education: Gain knowledge through structured learning and on-the-job training while mentored by industry professionals.

    Compensation

    Starting at $18.00 per hour during orientation and training with incremental wage increases as competencies are achieved. Veterans are eligible to apply for a monthly housing allowance as part of their GI Bill Benefits.

    Role of a Construction Laborer

    Construction laborers perform a wide range of duties such as:

    • Maintain a clean job site: pick up tools and equipment and secure the job site each day to eliminate potential hazards
    • Safely drive water truck
    • Chip concrete
    • Operate a compactor machine
    • Move materials by wheelbarrow or skid steer
    • Load and unload trucks and haul and hoist materials
    • May assist with controlling traffic
    • Assist other trades when necessary

    Work Environment

    As one may expect, construction is performed in physically demanding and conditions requiring heightened situational awareness. These include but are not limited to extreme heights, confined spaces, cold winters and hot summers. As a result, workers must be willing to work in austere (strict) safety conditions.

    Veterans Benefits

    Training is sponsored by employers and the workforce system. While earning wages and learning a skilled trade, veterans may utilize their GI Bill benefits to receive a tax-free monthly housing allowance. The combination of wages and GI Bill benefits helps veterans earn journey-level wages while progressing in an apprenticeship program.

    Candidate Requirements (no experience required)

    • Be based in the Houston, TX area and willing to relocate
      • Willingness to submit to drug screening, physical and background check
      • Have a valid government issued identification card or driver’s license and clean MVR
      • Must have reliable transportation to the job site
        • Willingness to work at heights and in confined spaces
        • Able to carry 50/60lbs of equipment and lift 100lbs
        • Proven commitment to safety
        • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule

        Preference is provided to applicants who have served in the Armed Forces
