    Field Technician Apprentice - Military Veteran

     

    Adaptive Construction Solutions (ACS) is looking for self-motivated and dependable veterans interested in starting a career as a Field Technician in Houston, TX. Candidates must be based in the Houston, TX area and be willing to travel.

    Upon placement into a full-time job, apprentices start employment by participating in up to three weeks of paid orientation and craft training. Apprentices are paid wages during this extended orientation/training. Training is sponsored by employers and the workforce system.

    While earning wages and learning a skilled trade, veterans may utilize their GI Bill benefits to receive a tax-free monthly housing allowance. The combination of wages and GI Bill benefits helps veterans earn journey-level wages while progressing in an apprenticeship program.

    What is Apprenticeship?

    Compensation

    Starting at $16.00+ per hour during orientation and training with incremental wage increases as competencies are achieved. Veterans are eligible to apply for a monthly housing allowance as part of their GI Bill Benefits.

     

    Role of a Field Technician Apprentice

    Field Technician Apprentices conduct personal exposure monitoring and direct-read surveys for target substances. They perform a wide range of duties such as:

    • Conduct walkthroughs and qualitative exposure assessments
    • Conduct visual assessments and clearances
    • Organize and perform Asbestos and Lead surveys in industrial settings
    • Perform and assume a lead role in emergency response activities
    • Air monitoring and project management of industrial jobs
    • Communicate with site supervisors and contacts to adapt exposure monitoring plans to scheduled work activities
    • Calibrate and maintain monitoring equipment in operational condition
    • Transport and maintain the chain of custody of samples collected to a pre-selected laboratory
    • Complete detailed project notes about health significance and environmental impact of field activities
    • Preparing summary reports for surveys and completed projects
    • Organize paperwork
    • Communicate with client contacts to clarify job specification
    • Communicate with laboratory contacts to establish monitoring and analytical method
    • Review project paperwork for technical and scientific accuracy
    • Other duties as assigned

    Work Environment

    As one may expect, field work is performed in physically demanding conditions requiring heightened situational awareness. These conditions include but are not limited to extreme heights, confined spaces, cold winters and hot summers. As a result, workers must be willing to work in austere (strict) safety conditions.

     

    Candidate Requirements (no experience required)

    • High school Diploma or GED
    • TWIC card preferred
    • Refineries/Plant experience a plus
    • Must pass alcohol and drug screen including hair follicle test and background screen
    • Must be able to travel

     

    Preference is provided to applicants who have served in the Armed Forces.
