  • Responsibilities

    Addiction Prevention Coalition has an immediate opening for a Student Specialist.  The APC Student Specialist will be an educator in the areas of substance use and misuse, student leadership skills and prevention campaigns. Planning, organizing, coordinating and facilitating programs by collaborating with other community members and agencies is required. Ideal candidate will possess an engaging disposition and strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. A baseline of skills is expected with technology and computer applications.

     Duties and Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with schools, parent-teacher groups, civic organizations, church groups, and other youth and community organizations to provide information and awareness on alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
    • Network with other prevention and social service agencies within the region to include prevention, intervention, treatment, mental health, etc. in order to provide comprehensive services, identify needs, and make referrals as necessary.
    • Work with INFOCUS Chapter members to coordinate and participate in alcohol, tobacco or other drug awareness campaigns such as Red Ribbon Week, Great American Smoke Out, etc.
    • Assist in planning and coordinating Youth Advisory Council meetings.
    • Participate in health fairs, business expos, parades and other community events for the purpose of providing anti-substance use messages.
    • Document all INFOCUS program activities as required, and submit program reports and records according to the agency’s established deadlines.
    • Submit monthly progress reports and any other evaluation information that may be requested by grantor.
    • Attend training, seminars, workshops, and classes to achieve required credentials and continuing education as required by the agency.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications for position

    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • Experience working with students and youth
    • Must have reliable transportation

    Skills and Knowledge

    • Must be a self-starter and can intuitively plan and execute projects.
    • Must be able to accept supervision, be able to follow procedures, and be able to lead.
    • Must be adaptable to change.
    • Ability to work with at risk communities.
    • Reports on activities to inform management of program accomplishments, issues and problems.
    • Strong organizational skills to be able to create plans for student activities

    Salary, Benefits, and Additional Information:

    • Full-time, Salaried position
    • Reports to Director of Student Initiatives
    • Travel: Required, Often
    • Salary:  $34,000 - $36,000
    • Vacation: 2 Weeks Paid
    • Benefits: Medical Insurance offered / $75 per pay period
    • Cell Phone: $50 per month reimbursement
