    Adjunct Faculty Position

    The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science in St. John’s College is seeking candidates for an adjunct faculty position to teach introductory courses in mathematics and machine learning.

    Responsibilities

    Once assigned a course or courses, adjunct faculty are expected to:

    • Prepare and distribute a course outline to students in accordance with the course syllabus at the start of the semester.
    • Develop instructional materials (lectures, readings, assignments, exams, projects, etc.) that will achieve the learning outcomes as stated in the course syllabus.
    • Evaluate student performance throughout the semester and provide periodic and constructive feedback to students in a reasonable amount of time.
    • Be available to engage with students outside the classroom by email or face-to-face communication.
    • Evaluate student performance and post final grades for each student within the timeframe required by the Provost's Office and be available for two weeks after the semester concludes to discuss final grades with students by email.
    • Promptly respond to requests for information before, during, and after the course, as required by the Department Chair and the St. John’s College Dean's Office.

    Qualifications

    A master's degree or higher in the discipline or a related field is required.

    The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers several programs: BS and BA in Mathematics, BS in Computing and Machine Learning, BS in Financial Mathematics, MA in Applied Mathematics, Computing, and Machine Learning, and MS in Computational Biology and Biostatistics.

    In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hire-on rate is $1750 per credit at the Adjunct Instructor rank for candidates without a Ph.D. and $1850 per credit at the Adjunct Assistant Professor rank for candidates with a Ph.D. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
