Adjunct Instructor Ethnic Studies Instructor
Job Summary
We are seeking an Adjunct Instructor to join our team! As an Adjunct Instructor, you will be facilitating a classroom, following the agreed-upon class schedule, participating in student discussion boards, and responding to student questions or issues in a timely manner. You will also be grading classwork and providing feedback to help students understand their course materials, address upcoming concerns for students, and ensure each student has the tools they need to succeed. The ideal candidate has a background in education or teaching, has strong communication skills, and can cultivate a positive learning atmosphere.

Modality: Asynchronous online via Orbund LMS, with Regular and Substantive
Interaction (RSI)
Minimum Qualifications
Per California Title 5 §53410 and ACCJC Standard III.A:
• Master's degree in Ethnic Studies, African American Studies, Chicana/o Studies, Asian
American Studies, Native American Studies, or Indigenous Studies, OR
• Master's degree in Sociology, History, Anthropology, American Studies, or closely
related discipline AND ≥12 graduate units of Ethnic Studies content focused on
racialized populations, OR
• Equivalent qualifications as approved through TTC's faculty equivalency process
Preferred Qualifications
• PhD in Ethnic Studies or directly related field
• Teaching experience in Ethnic Studies, race and ethnicity, or related courses
• Familiarity with C-ID descriptor ETHS C1000 (Introduction to Ethnic Studies)
• Research, publications, or community engagement focused on racialized populations
• Background in one or more of the four core groups: Native American/Indigenous, African
American/Black, Latina/o/Chicana/o, Asian American/Pacific Islander
• Online teaching experience
Primary Responsibilities
• Develop and maintain the ETHN-101 Introduction to Ethnic Studies course syllabus
aligned with C-ID ETHS C1000 descriptor and Cal-GETC Area 6
• Cover course content including: foundational concepts in Ethnic Studies, the
experiences and contributions of the four core groups, racism and anti-racism,
intersectionality, settler colonialism and resistance, contemporary social justice
movements, and culturally responsive practice
• Select primary textbook (recommended: Healey's Race, Ethnicity, Gender, and Class
OR Schaefer's Racial and Ethnic Groups). NOTE: Banks' Teaching Strategies for Ethnic
Studies is teacher pedagogy and is NOT appropriate as primary content text
• Document and assess Student Learning Outcomes per ACCJC Standard II.A.4
• Connect Ethnic Studies content to ECE practice where appropriate (culturally responsive
teaching, family engagement across cultures, anti-bias education)
• Teach 5-week accelerated terms multiple times per academic year
Standard Faculty Responsibilities (All Theoria Instructors)
• Maintain Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI) per IPM 4.8 and 34 CFR §600.2
• Submit weekly RSI Self-Log per institutional procedure
• Document Student Learning Outcomes assessment per IPM and Curriculum Committee
schedule
• Provide timely grading and feedback (responses to student communications within 48
hours)
• Participate in faculty development and Curriculum Committee processes as assigned
• Comply with all institutional policies (IPM, FERPA, Title IX, etc.)
