Adoption Coordinator- Full Time Freeport, FL

Want to make a real difference in the lives of rescue animals in need? Alaqua Animal Refuge is more than a shelter. We are a nonprofit sanctuary and rescue facility on 100 breathtaking acres in Northwest Florida, dedicated to saving animals, healing them, and helping them find forever homes. We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated person to fill our Full Time Adoption Coordinator position.

The Adoption Coordinator plays a key role in helping animals find their forever homes by overseeing the adoption process from start to finish. This position supports a diverse population of animals—including dogs, cats, rabbits, farm animals, and other companion animals—by matching them with loving adopters, providing education, and ensuring a positive experience for both animals and people. The ideal candidate is highly organized, compassionate, and passionate about animal welfare and people-focused service.

    What You’ll Do:

    Adoption Management

    • Manage all aspects of the adoption process, including application review, interviews, meet-and-greets, and finalizing adoptions
    • Ensure each animal is matched appropriately based on temperament, medical needs, and adopter lifestyle
    • Maintain clear, accurate, and timely records in shelter software and files
    • Act as a liaison between adopters and animal care staff to ensure smooth transitions

    Animal Care Support

    • Stay informed about each adoptable animal’s medical and behavioral status
    • Work with veterinary and animal care teams to ensure animals are ready for adoption
    • Collaborate with foster, animal care and training teams to prepare animals for successful placements

    What We’re Looking For

    • Passion for animal rescue and commitment to the organization’s mission
    • 1–2 years of experience in animal welfare, customer service, or program coordination preferred
    • Knowledge of multiple species (e.g., dogs, cats, rabbits, livestock) a plus
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple tasks simultaneously
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Proficiency with computers and shelter management software (e.g., Shelterluv)
    • Must be able to handle animals of varying sizes, temperaments, and species safely and compassionately
    • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
    • Weekend availability required
