Save A Dog is looking for a temporary Volunteer Coordinator to manage the Adult and Teen volunteer programs while our current coordinator is on maternity leave. You will be responsible for coordinating the schedules using the Volgistics software program, emailing the daily schedule to the volunteers, and finding replacements for volunteer slots as needed. In addition to managing the schedule, you will provide the training and direction for new volunteers. In addition you must be experienced with handling dogs of all sizes and dispositions. We prefer someone who has been through the CORI test. You will need to be comfortable working with all levels of cognitive ability, including students with learning disabilities. You will work with the staff to teach the volunteers hands on animal care, basic training, and enrichment of the dogs in the shelter. You will staff meetings and assist with shelter duties. You will need strong communications skills, ability to learn software programs, and be able to work well with others in a fast-paced environment. There will also be record keeping of the students’ community credits. This position requires a 20-30 hour a week commitment. The start date is immediate and ends in mid-July. There is the potential for continued employment in a similar position.
The ideal candidate would have a background working with people as well as a good knowledge of dog behavior. Previous dog handling experience, an understanding reward based training is required. We are looking for a friendly, outgoing person who has a teaching background and who is excited about the potential of adults, both young and old. Previous dog training and/or shelter experience is a plus.
