As a member of our FAA Enterprise Network Services (FENS) team, you will bring your passion, education and experience to this critical mission and interact directly with decision-makers and government staff who are tasked with ensuring the nation's air transportation system's underlying communications infrastructure is secure and always available.     What we’re looking for...

    A Senior Technician Network Operations with responsibilities for planning, preparing, and installing connectivity for the logical and physical levels (layer 1, 2 and 3) for a variety of voice and data products. You will prepare and plan network installations by studying customer orders, technical specifications, verifying equipment, supplies, and materials. Once installed, you will test remote telecommunications equipment (routers, switches, multiplexors, etc.) and activate remote access tools. This position will coordinate and collaborate with vendors, other telecommunications carriers, and contracted agencies. Position may require shift work.

    • Review and recommend updates to CLR's (Circuit Layout records) and review installation diagrams via various core systems. (BGW, TCOMS, and Provisioning Controller).
    • Verify service by testing circuits, equipment and clearing alarms; identifying, correcting, or escalating problems.
    • Troubleshoot and correct issues.
    • Test network back-up procedures, update documentation.
    • Respond to trouble reports, performs troubleshooting activities and drives repairs/replaces malfunctioning equipment and/or facilities.
    • Maintain internal and external customer rapport by listening to and resolving concerns and answering questions.
    • Enhance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
    • Work closely with management to identify potential gaps and shortfalls to internal processes and external impacts. Provides solutions and feedback as needed.
    • Provide guidance within the team and works with management to provide assistance to other team members as required to ensure the department delivery goals and testing standards are met.
    • Follow industry and company standards and maintain a safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal regulations.
    • Update job knowledge and training materials by participating in educational opportunities, read technical publications and participate in other various activities in the industry.

    You’ll need to have:

    • Bachelor’s degree or one or more years of relevant experience in network communications.
    • One or more years of experience in provisioning and network connectivity activation for Layers 1, 2, and 3.
    • Experience with TDM/SONET/Ethernet design, engineering, and provisioning.
    • Experience with digital and SONET Transport - T-1, T-3, OC-3, OC-12, OC-48.
    • Experience installing and configuring CPE/CTE from a variety of vendors like Cisco, Juniper, Ciena, and Overture equipment.
    • Experience installing and configuring a variety of SONET / Network Equipment like Adtran, Cisco, Lucent, Fujitsu, Juniper, Tellabs, Nortel, and Ciena.
    • Experience using and operating test equipment (remote) and diagnostic software.
    • Public Trust clearance needed.

    Even better if you have one or more of the following:

    • Broad Knowledge of Communications telecommunications wiring standards and installation practices.
    • In-depth understanding of TDM/SONET/Ethernet design, engineering, and provisioning.
    • In-depth Knowledge of Communications switching and common control systems.
    • Ability to use Windows, Word, Excel, and other related PC applications.
    • Extensive knowledge of industry testing standards for telecommunications services. (IE.. RFC 6349 and IY1564)
    • Advanced knowledge and ability to physically install and configure equipment, connections, wiring, and cable working from layouts or plans.
    • Ability to read and understand technical manuals, schematic diagrams, and related documentation.
