    Position Overview

    The Advanced Cardiovascular Nurse is a clinical leader with advanced skills and knowledge in cardiovascular nursing. This role functions independently as a role model, clinician, educator, patient/family advocate, consultant, leader, and researcher. The nurse is responsible for planning and providing educational programs to improve nursing staff competence, ensuring high-quality care delivery, and is accountable for clinical, quality, and financial outcomes for a defined patient population. The nurse facilitates multidisciplinary care teams to review, analyze, and improve clinical practices.

    Qualifications

    • Education: Master’s in Nursing (Required)
    • Licensure/Certification:
      • Active CA RN License
      • BLS Certification (AHA)
      • Certification from a national professional specialty organization (within 3 years of hire.
    • Experience:
      • Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in cardiac ICU or related specialization
      • Experience with advanced cardiac therapies and mechanical circulatory support
      • Experience supporting cardiac services (EKG, arrhythmia treatments, open heart procedures)
      • Experience in evidence-based practice and/or research
    • Skills:
      • Advanced clinical assessment and critical thinking
      • Leadership and team facilitation
      • Patient and staff education
      • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
      • Proficiency in cardiac monitoring and advanced therapies
      • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

    Key Responsibilities

    • Serve as a clinical leader and role model in cardiovascular care.
    • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including history, physical exams, and cardiac monitoring (ECG, telemetry).
    • Interpret cardiac rhythms and manage advanced therapies (Impella, IABP, ECMO).
    • Oversee and educate staff on cardiac devices and interventions.
    • Develop, implement, and evaluate care plans for cardiovascular patients.
    • Facilitate multidisciplinary care teams to improve clinical practice.
    • Educate patients and families on cardiovascular health and treatment plans.
    • Support evidence-based practice (EBP) and participate in research initiatives.
    • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
    • Advocate for patient safety and quality outcomes.

    Physical Examination Responsibilities:

    • Perform and document cardiovascular physical examinations, including inspection, palpation, and auscultation of the heart and lungs.
    • Assess vital signs, peripheral pulses, edema, and skin color/temperature.
    • Monitor for signs of distress or deterioration and initiate appropriate interventions.
    • Evaluate and interpret results of cardiac tests and laboratory findings.

    Medical Oversight Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate with cardiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare providers to deliver comprehensive care.
    • Monitor and manage cardiac medications and therapies.
    • Ensure appropriate use and monitoring of mechanical circulatory support devices.
    • Participate in the development and implementation of cardiac care policies and procedures.
