  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    The Lab Technician contributes to the overall finishing process. This may include all master standard color planks and chips, participates in all new color development and overall improvements in the finish process.

    The Lab Tech works Monday -Thursday 10.5 hour days, and overtime on Friday as deemed necessary by management.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Follows all safety rules and contributes to a safe work environment.
    2. Follows established manufacturing procedures under assigned department which may include but is not limited to: 1. Assist with Finish/Stain Standardization 2. Test and approve all new paint and stain colors 3. Maintain color standards 4. Source of contact for Finish/Stain Suppliers (ex. Sherwin Williams) 5. Source of contact for internal staining departments 6. Problem solve finish/stain issues with associates of all levels 7. Problem solve finish/stain issues with Finish Supervisors and Plant Managers 8. Monitors process for consistency and overall finish quality 9. Furnishes reports as required by the Finish Application Manager 10. Reports all processes and related discrepancies and adjustments to the Manager 11. Assists in assuring proper operation of finish equipment and processes in all finish aspects of Bertch Cabinets 12. Assist in training for standardization of processes within finish 13. Assist with improvements with equipment and standardization within finish areas
    3. Participates and contributes to a Work Team environment and follows quality control checks.
    4. Contributes to meeting Bertch manufacturing schedule.
    5. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Ability to read measurement tools.
    • Apply all types of finishes.
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
    • Ability to work with and train associates in the finishing processes.

    Physical Demands

    • Ability to lift, bend, push, pull, and move materials up to or exceeding 50 lbs.
    • Ability to stand or walk an entire shift (can be 8-10 hours)

    Work Environment

    Employees must be able to cope with Iowa climates; endure heat and cold conditions in the building. Fast paced workloads and loud noise levels are normal. Paint fumes and exposure to chemicals associated may be present. Personal Protective Equipment as required by OSHA will be provided by the Company.
