Job Summary – Physician Assistant/ Nurse Practitioner
AFC Urgent Care Stamford is seeking a skilled, compassionate, and motivated Physician Assistant to join our fast-paced urgent care and occupational medicine team. In this role, you will provide high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals of all ages presenting with acute illnesses, injuries, and workplace-related conditions.
This position offers the opportunity to practice broad-spectrum urgent care while also supporting our growing Occupational Medicine and DOT Physical program. The ideal candidate is confident, efficient, and comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with supervising physicians and clinical staff.
Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive patient evaluations including medical history, physical examination, and clinical assessment
Diagnose and treat acute illnesses and minor injuries such as respiratory infections, fractures, lacerations, sprains, and other urgent care presentations
Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic testing including labs, EKGs, and X-rays
Perform common urgent care procedures such as suturing, incision and drainage, splinting, wound care, and foreign body removal
Conduct Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examinations (FMCSA) or obtain Medical Examiner certification within 3 months of hire
Provide Occupational Medicine services including work-related injury evaluation and treatment, workers’ compensation cases, return-to-work clearances, and employer-required physicals
Administer medications, vaccinations, injections, and treatments according to clinical protocols
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the Experity electronic health record (EHR) system
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, FMCSA, and infection control standards
Provide clear discharge instructions and patient education
Support clinic flow and operational efficiency while maintaining excellent patient experience
Qualifications
Experience in urgent care, emergency medicine, or primary care preferred
ANCC, AANP, or NCCPA Board Certified – (with 1 yr ER/UC experience preferred)
Active and current Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner licensure in the state of practice, DEA number, and state-controlled substance certificate, as required
Ability to perform urgent care procedures including suturing, splinting, wound care, and phlebotomy
Willingness to become a certified FMCSA DOT Medical Examiner within 3 months of hire if not already certified
Familiarity with Occupational Medicine and workers’ compensation cases preferred
Proficiency with electronic medical records; Experity experience is a plus
Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication skills and a patient-first approach Able to multi-task and work independently
