    Overview

    Military & Health Research Foundation (MHRF) is seeking a skilled Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (Gastroenterology) position at Ft Hood Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center and its associated local locations. This role will support gastrointestinal specialty care by evaluating patients, developing and implementing treatment plans, and coordinating care with physicians and multidisciplinary teams.

    The ideal candidate will bring strong clinical judgment, recent hands-on gastroenterology experience, and a commitment to safe, evidence-based patient care in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Candidates should be comfortable working flexible shifts as mission needs require, including possible days, evenings, weekends, holidays, or adjusted schedules. Candidates must be prepared to meet all privileging, credentialing, licensure, certification, and onboarding requirements prior to providing services.

    Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

    Prescribes for and treats a variety of gastrointestinal diseases, disorders, and injuries.

    Knowledge of the medical, biological, and physical sciences related to gastrointestinal specialty area.

    Knowledge of and skill to recognize emergency conditions to diagnose, prescribe for, and treat diseases, disorders, and injuries.

    Perform routine physical examinations to the management of moderately complex acute and chronic illnesses in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

    Performs initial patient work-up and assessment of patient care and treatment.

    Determines the need for and orders laboratory test, x-rays, and other procedures required to completely assess the patient.

    Distinguishes between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental problems.

    Provides surveillance of adherence to established gastroenterology policies and procedures to stabilize chronically ill patients.

    Adjusts regimens within established protocols recognizing when to refer the patient to the gastroenterologist or return to the patient’s primary care manager for other medical issues.

    Make decisions concerning the gastroenterology needs of patients with physicians.

    Works in collaboration with physicians in patient management evaluation and revision of therapeutic plans.

    Completes all necessary outpatient record entries, progress notes, admission/discharge paperwork, and dictates narrative summaries (as required) and within CRDAMC MTF policies and regulations.

    Ensures inpatient treatment documents and narrative summaries are countersigned by the attending physician.

    Provides full range of emergency services or crises interventions in the absence of the physician including lifesaving emergency procedures.

    Responsible for assigned panel of patients in the outpatient clinic.

    Occasionally provides preceptorship and/or teaching for candidate physician extenders, students, residents, fellows, technicians, and volunteers.

    Minimum Requirements

    US Citizen

    Master’s degree in nursing (MSN) or doctoral degree (DNP). Graduate from an academic program, within the nursing specialty field of study that is accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

    Minimum of 3 years of experience, post education/graduate and post-licensure. Experience must be with last 4 years

    Minimum of 3 years of experience

    Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner.

    Certified in the specialty as a Nurse Practitioner

    Possess NPI, BLE and DEA registration number

    Past experience and practice must be in FNP, ACPCNP or AGACNP with hands on knowledge and experience related to gastrointestinal specialties and patient care.

    Professional Certification (s):

    Certified in the specialty as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or the recognized national nursing certification organization for the specialty area of practice as appropriate

    Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner.

    National Provider Identifier (NPI) from CMMS

    Basic Life Support (BLS) by AHA or American Red Cross

    Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration number

    Additional Information

    Must pass TB Test

    Subject to a background/security investigation

    Willingness to comply with DHA vaccination requirements.

    Willingness to complete a physical examination

    Pre-employment drug screening

    Required to wear PPE during performance of services.

    Walking, long periods of standing, stretching, crouching, bending, stooping, lifting to 50lbs, lifting over 50lbs with assistance.

    Exposure to infections disease; toxic, hazardous, or irritating chemicals; carcinogenic materials; noxious fumes; flammable liquids; radiation; pathogenic bacteria; electric hazards.
