    ENGINEERING & CONSTRUCTION | ALBUQUERQUE, NM | ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST

    We are in need of an Environmental Scientist in Albuquerque, NM.  Candidates need to have 3-7 years of similar experience supporting industrial or heavy industrial engineering or construction projects ideally.

    • $35-$40/hr. based on experience
    • 40 hours per week, M-F
    • Contract with opportunity to convert FT (Contract-to-Hire)
    • Travel requirements: Yes - approx. 25%. 
    • Vehicle usage: Yes - but only if going on a site (NOT daily usage).

    Description – Environmental Scientist (Permit Coordinator)

    • Primary Duties:
      • Perform permit coordination with project team, develop/manage/track permits using permit tracker.
      • Coordinate with client peer groups for permitting deliverables
      • Manage field team deliverables
    • Assist with completing field investigations that may include habitat evaluations for threatened and endangered species and/or evaluation of other potentially sensitive resources
    • Compose technical reports presenting results from field investigations and develop appropriate applications/consultations necessary for various regulatory approvals.
    • Conduct permit compliance tasks, federal/state/local permit applications, agency consultations.
    • Develop non environmental permit applications and process applications with the associated approval body.
    • Office related tasks would include report writing, QA/QC review, assistance with compliance related tasks
    • Work includes a mix of field assessments, report/permit preparation and travel.
    • Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies
    • Secondary Duties: Conduct environmental compliance audits, prepare permitting applications and analyze environmental data for various types of projects, including renewable projects, high-voltage transmission line routing, oil and gas facilities, power generation construction activities and water treatment facilities.
    • Environmental compliance audits; storm-water pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) preparation and Best Management Practices (BMP) inspections, environmental site assessments; and report and permit writing.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    Note: Can use own car IF manager agrees and reimbursed for mileage.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Botany, Soil Science, or a related natural science degree from an accredited program is required.
    • 4 years plus of related experience required (6 years preferred).
      • Demonstrated knowledge of permitting including one of the following but not limited to:
        • Section 404, 401 and Army Corps of Engineers Nationwide and Section 10 permitting
        • State Historical Preservation Office, Section 106 consultation
        • Fish and Wildlife Service, Section 7 consultation
        • Department of Transportation Occupancy and Excavation permits
        • NPDES NOI and NOC
        • Knowledge of state and local permitting processes in New Mexico.
    • 2 yrs previous consulting experience related to environmental compliance inspections
    • 5 years plus of experience in environmental review and permitting.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to clearly communicate both verbal and written technical information.
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
    • Proficient in computer software (Microsoft Office-Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
    • Valid driver's license required. In addition, must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy.

    Preferred

    • Basic knowledge of environmental site assessment methods, environmental compliance and compliance audits, environmental permitting process (i.e., basic knowledge of waters and wetland permitting, threatened and endangered species permitting and cultural resources), and work in the ArcGIS desktop environment.
    • Knowledge of the agencies that govern wetland resources and storm-water.
    • Knowledge of erosion and sediment control permitting and site restoration practices.
    • Demonstrated proficiency operating GPS and GIS equipment and support software.
