  • Responsibilities

    The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) is responsible for managing, implementing and enforcing the Safety and Health Program in accordance with the accepted Accident Prevention Plan.

    • Manage the safety and health programs to ensure compliance with established policies, state/federal laws and OSHA regulations and act as the primary contact for all health and safety and/or regulatory agency requests and inquiries.
    • Ensure sub-contractor compliance with safety and health requirements.
    • Facilitate accident prevention activities in compliance with OSHA and EM385-1-1 regulations or guidelines.
    • Formulate, create, and maintain site/contract safety plans specific to projects and/or contracts when necessary or required.
    • Ensure proper employee, company, and subcontractor certifications are obtained and maintained.
    • Communicate, educate, and train employees in safety awareness and specific safety requirements according to OSHA and EM385-1-1.
    • Conduct daily safety and health inspections and maintain a written log.

    Required Skills

    • Working knowledge of federal and state regulations to determine compliance within program area(s)
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
    • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Exceptional attention to detail and excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Ability to take initiative, problem-solve and work in a fast-paced setting.
    • Professional demeanor in person, online, and via phone with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

     

    Required Experience

    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the facilities industry.
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in management of construction projects (managing safety programs or processes or conducting hazard analyses and developing controls).
    • Minimum 5 years of construction industry safety experience or 3 years if possesses a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or safety and health degree
    • Be familiar with requirements of USACE EM 385-1-1, and experience in the areas of hazard identification, safety compliance and sustainability.
    • 30-hour OSHA construction safety class or equivalent within the last 5 years
    • Must have completed the course entitled "Construction Quality Management (CQM) for Contractors"
