    SPRING & FALL PART-TIME WORK HOURS:

    Monday-Friday 2:30–6 PM (NPS sites)

    Monday-Friday 3–6 PM (Charter sites)

    Monday-Thursday 2:30-6 PM; Friday 11:30–6 PM (Charter site 2)

    SUMMER PART-TIME WORK HOURS:

    Monday-Friday 11:30–3 PM (NPS sites)

    Monday-Friday 11:30–6 PM (All sites, SELECT STAFF ONLY)

    Monday-Thursday 7:30 AM-3 PM (Charter site 2)


    Position: PROGRAM LEADER (Enrichment Course Instructor)

    Reports to: Site Coordinator, Assistant Site Coordinator & Director of Instruction

    Location: Newark, NJ (sites vary within the city)

    Compensation: $18-$20/hour (commensurate with experience)

    AFTER-SCHOOL ALL-STARS NEW JERSEY (ASAS NJ)

We do this by providing free after-school enrichment during the school year and summer months, both in-school and via our ASAS-Online virtual enrichment program.

    ____RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

    The ideal candidate has familiarity with and passion for working with inner-city youth, in addition to ONE YEAR OR MORE OF NON-PROFIT, TEACHING, OR RELATED YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM EXPERIENCE, and expertise in one or more of (but not limited to) the following areas:

    • ANIMATION & GRAPHIC DESIGN
    • CARPENTRY & 3D CREATION
    • CODING, GAMING, OR ROBOTICS
    • COOKING
    • COSMETOLOGY
    • DJ’ING, SOUND ENGINEERING, MUSIC PRODUCTION
    • FASHION DESIGN & SEWING, CROCHETING, AND KNITTING
    • FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT
    • FITNESS & WELLNESS
    • PERFORMING ARTS: Music (vocal and/or instrument), Dance/Step, Drama/Theater, Spoken Word/Poetry
    • PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEO PRODUCTION
    • SPORTS
    • STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Math

    ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

    The part-time Program Leader, under the direction of the Director of Instruction, is responsible for the daily implementation of IN-PERSON After-School All-Stars NJ enrichment program model including:

    Youth Empowerment

    • PROVIDE DAILY QUALITY INSTRUCTION IN A SPECIFIC & SPECIALIZED AREA OF TEACHING (see Relevant Experience below)
    • Daily positive engagement that fosters a safe & secure environment where scholars can thrive
    • Consistently engage all scholars in the learning process by gauging interests and managing interaction.

    Instruction & Facilitation

    • Work in conjunction with ASAS Program Team to ensure the smooth delivery of program courses & activities
    • Support scholar recruitment and program promotion
    • Prepare supplies, materials, and any other items needed before the program begins
    • Create and maintain an inviting, safe, and orderly environment where scholars are comfortable to share, create, and shine
    • Maintain professional and positive relationships with school staff, partners, scholars, and parents
    • Work across teams with other Program Leaders to develop engaging content for student learning opportunities

    Supervision

    • Always supervise scholars
    • Commitment to attending program daily
    • Follow the ASAS code of conduct when teaching and engaging scholars

    Curriculum Development

    • Develop lesson plans & activities that incorporate scholar interests, required curricula, and timeframes, ensuring accurate implementation
    • Attend professional development training and meetings
    • Assist in planning end-of-session showcases and culminating events

    Data Management

    • Track and monitor daily attendance, provide support to lead and co-teachers as appropriate
    • Maintain accurate scholar data ensuring on-time submission

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Eligible to work in the US
    • Clear fingerprinting, background, and Tuberculosis checks'
    • Some undergraduate or technical-career study
    • Love working with children with a passion for mentoring inner-city youth
    • Expertise and/or experience in a teachable skill
    • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with school district staff, program staff, parents, and community leaders
    • Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate sensitivity to others as well as respond to critical incidents and act swiftly in urgent situations
    • Excellent organizational skills
    • Familiarity with basic computer software programs
    • Comply with the company, site, and/or school district COVID-19 staffing protocols

    ADDITIONAL OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • One or more years of experience working in an after-school, day camp, or community youth outreach setting is preferred
    • Have experience in instruction/facilitation in an educational setting
    • Strong classroom/group management skills preferred
    • Experience creating lesson/unit plans or multi-week curriculum preferred
    • Familiarity and experience with diverse populations and cultural competencies are strongly desired
    • Familiarity with youth development principles for elementary & middle school-aged youth preferred
