Job Title: Part-Time Chess Instructor
(Inspire Young Minds Through Play)
Location: San Bruno, CA
Type: Part-Time | In-Person
Pay: $25.00–$27.00 per hour + mileage reimbursement
About the Role:
Yes For Chess is looking for enthusiastic, dependable individuals to join our team as After-School Chess Instructors. New hires will receive paid training over the summer, and the position will officially start in early September when classroom instruction begins. Please note: this role does not begin until September, and we are looking for candidates who are available and committed to starting at that time.
Using the game of chess, we teach elementary school students (ages 5–11) essential life skills like problem-solving, patience, and strategic thinking—all in a fun and supportive setting. Don't worry if you're not a chess master—if you know the basic rules of chess (how the pieces move, how to capture, check, and checkmate), we can help build your skills from there!
What You'll Do:
• Teach the basics of chess to elementary-aged students
• Lead fun and engaging lessons during after-school hours (typically 3:00–4:30 PM)
• Inspire and motivate students through patience, encouragement, and creativity
• Travel to school sites across San Bruno and San Francisco
• Ensure a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment
What We're Looking For:
• Experience working with children (teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counseling, etc.)
• A passion for youth education and student growth
• Dependable transportation (own car required)
• Professionalism, punctuality, and clear communication
• Availability to work 5–6 hours total per week, Monday through Friday (this is a very part-time role)
• Willingness to complete a background check
• Basic chess knowledge is a plus—we'll train the right person!
Perks & Benefits:
• Competitive pay: $25–$27/hour
• Mileage reimbursement for travel to qualifying school sites
• Paid training and ongoing professional development
• Flexible, very part-time schedule
• Supportive, mission-driven team culture
• Access to a retirement savings plan
