    Job Type: Part-Time (Afternoons, Monday–Friday)
    Compensation: $25-30/hour based on experience

    About Shalom After School

    Shalom After School (SAS) is a new Jewish After School program launching in the fall of 2025. SAS is a vibrant, inclusive after school program serving children in grades K–5. Rooted in Jewish values, our program offers a nurturing environment where children engage in hands-on, experiential camp-inspired learning and play. We provide a safe space for children to explore their interests, build friendships, and develop a lifelong love of learning.

    Position Summary

    We are seeking a compassionate, creative, and energetic Afterschool Teacher to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate is someone who naturally connects with children, brings a joyful and positive presence to the classroom, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You should be confident leading groups of children through structured and unstructured activities, managing transitions with ease, and fostering an atmosphere of respect, curiosity, and kindness.

    Successful candidates will be proactive, flexible, and organized, with the ability to balance fun and learning. A strong sense of humor, patience, and the ability to build trusting relationships with both children and their families are essential.     Key Responsibilities

    • Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times
    • Collaborate with other educators to adapt the provided curriculum and activities to fit the learning style, interests, and needs of the children in the program
    • Plan and/or lead age-appropriate activities, including homework support, arts and crafts, games, and enrichment (both secular and Jewish.)
    • Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students
    • Communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff
    • Assist with setup, cleanup, and maintaining an organized and clean learning space
    • Observe and document children’s progress and behaviors as needed
    • Follow all program policies and procedures, including health and safety guidelines
    • Some qualified teachers may drive the Shalom After School van for school pick-up
    • Some teachers may ride the van and act as bus monitors

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field preferred
    • Previous experience working with children in a school or childcare setting
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Patience, creativity, and a genuine interest in child development
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Must pass a background check and meet all state EEC licensing requirements
    • Must have or be willing to complete the EEC required online training courses upon hire (cost and hours covered by Shalom After School.)
    • CPR/First Aid Certified or willingness to obtain certification immediately upon hire (costs and hours covered by Shalom After School)
    • 7D Drivers Certification or willingness to obtain one upon hire (costs and hours covered by Shalom After School)

    Schedule

    • September-June
    • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 1:30-6:30 | Wednesdays 11:30 - 6:30
      • Includes one hour of prep and meeting time before students arrive and 30 minutes of clean-up after students leave.
      • Between 4-6 early release Thursdays a year (11:00-6:30)
    • Occasional flexibility for staff meetings or events
    • Optional opportunities to staff school vacation camp days (12 a year)
    • Teacher who can work 4-5 day a week preferred - schedule flexibility possible on a case by case basis
