    AgBiome is seeking curious, enthusiastic, and self-motivated individuals with strong emotional intelligence to work in ​our Microbiology lab.     AgBiome's paid internship opportunities are full-time positions from May to August 2019, ranging from 8 to 12 weeks in length.  . 

    The main focus of this internship will be working with our Animal Health group to expand our collection of bacteria and bacterial genomes from the microbiomes of livestock. The intern will search the literature and interact with experts to design microbial isolation strategies and perform isolations under aerobic and anaerobic environments. The intern will design and evaluate culture conditions to enrich for microbes of interest, design experiments, and test hypotheses. The intern will have the opportunity to perform assays on individual strains or consortia, critically analyze taxonomic/genomic data, and present findings. This is a great opportunity to interface with laboratory automation experts, microbial ecologists and data scientists, as well as to contribute to a new and expanding part of AgBiome's platform.

    Applicant background: Graduate student in Master's or Ph.D. program (Ph.D. preferred) in Microbiology, Animal Science, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, or similar. Experience with laboratory equipment such as plate readers, liquid handlers, anaerobic chambers preferred but not required. Familiarity with basic bioinformatics tools for genome analysis preferred. Experience with aseptic technique and familiarity with work in a microbiology lab required.

    AgBiome is located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, near Duke, NC State and UNC-Chapel Hill. Housing and relocation assistance are not offered. Interns must be legally able to work in the United States for the duration of the internship, and must not require sponsorship.
