Sales & Birthday Party Assistant
Under the supervision of the Director of the Discovery Center, a Discovery Center Sales and Birthday Party Assistant is responsible for opening and closing of the Discovery Center, customer service, gift shop transactions, guest interaction, execution of Birthday Parties, volunteer oversight, giving guests information about the Discovery Center and day to day operations of the Discovery Center. This is a Part-Time position on Saturdays and Sundays with some options during the week. For the right candidate could work in a part-time Assistant Manager position. Would be a great stepping stone for a student in college, looking to grow into a career in the non-profit sector such as event planning, customer relations, and communications. Responsibilities: • Greet and assist visitors and participants as the primary customer service contact in a cordial and welcoming manner. • Use computer system to access information. • Handled gift shop transactions. • Interact with visitors to the center by answering questions about the natural world, programming opportunities including Environmental Education, School and Scout programs, and events and rentals. • Execute rental set-up and tear-down and returning the Discovery Center back to “visitor ready”. • Answer phones and direct calls to the appropriate party. Record and distribute messages. • Coordinate room usage. • Opening and Closing of the Discovery Center. • Maintain and communicate changes in Discovery Center operations, exhibits, and facilities. • Work with volunteers to give them tasks. • Attend to the general tidiness of the building. • Assist with set-up and takedown of programming spaces. Qualifications: • Work as a Team Player with co-workers and in conjunction with other departments. • Willing to wear many hats. • Likes working in a fast-paced, ever-changing operation - no day is ever the same. Compensation: $16 - $18 hourly
