Position Summary
CareFlite is seeking a highly skilled Air Transport Float Nurse to provide advanced critical care to patients during air, ground, and specialty transport operations. This role is responsible for assessing patient conditions, performing advanced interventions, and ensuring safe and efficient transport across our service area.
This position is ideal for experienced critical care nurses who thrive in dynamic, high-acuity environments and are passionate about delivering exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver advanced critical care to critically ill or injured patients during transport
- Perform patient assessments and implement interventions within CareFlite’s clinical scope
- Collaborate with paramedics, pilots, dispatch, and healthcare teams to ensure coordinated care
- Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, regulatory standards, and organizational policies
- Demonstrate strong situational awareness across air and ground environments
Work Schedule & Environment
- Schedule: 24 hours on / 72 hours off, including weekends and holidays (365-day operations)
- Float Assignment: Primarily based in the DFW area but required to cover shifts across the service area, including Burnet, TX
* Hotel accommodations may be provided when assigned to distant bases
* Float assignments may be communicated the same day as shift start
- Overtime: May be required based on operational needs and mission demand
- Environment: Aircraft, ground ambulances, hospitals, and outdoor settings
* Exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, vibration, confined spaces, and transport-related hazards
- Travel: Frequent travel within the service area; occasional overnight stays
- On-Call: Participation in on-call rotation as required
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry patients and equipment (up to 100 lbs. with assistance)
- Maximum weight of 230 lbs. in full flight gear
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces
- Exposure to loud noise, vibration, exhaust, rotating aircraft components, and bodily fluids
- Must pass background check, drug screening, physical assessment, and audiology testing
