    About:

    Akara Partners is a national real estate investment, development and residential property management and is looking for an Assistant Controller to fill a key role in its accounting team and function. This role will be responsible for supporting and day-to-day accounting functions of corporate accounting for investment, development and property management company, property level accounting, development projects, and property partnership accounting for ownership structures in a growing portfolio of primarily multi-family assets around the country.

    Position: Assistant Controller

    Responsibilities:

    • Review financial books for all subsidiaries and oversee property accounting by outsourced partners
    • Oversee year-end financial audits (portfolio properties, corporate, guarantor) and tax compliance (K-1’s), working with and overseeing work by, independent accountants
    • Confirm and support creation of monthly and annual consolidated financial statements, statement of members’ equity and statement of cash flows for corporate entities and properties
    • Review budget-to-actual variance analysis with outsourced partners
    • Manage corporate expenses and company credit cards
    • Review results with department heads as needed
    • Lender compliance reporting and monitoring
    • Improving accounting processes and procedures
    • Cash flow analysis, monitoring and reporting to company executive committee
    • Provide accounting support for investor reporting and property acquisitions and property development
    • Guarantor reporting for assets under portfolio management
    • Prepare investor reporting
    • Drive cash forecasting efforts to ensure accurate projections and financial planning, property and corporate
    • Monitor contingent liabilities, particularly taxes and reserve accounting
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support financial decision-making

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
    • 5+ years of experience at a Senior-level or higher in real estate accounting
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP principles and real estate accounting
    • Proficiency in Yardi and Microsoft Suite
    • Experience with ADP/Paychex is a plus
    • CPA certification being actively pursued or obtained
    • Comfortable with a fast-paced, evolving work environment
