    JOB SUMMARY:  Prepare and analyze estimates of labor and material costs for the repair and manufacture of custom engineered valve components based on request for proposal (RFP) data from prospective customers. Utilizing broad knowledge typically gained through education and experience, develop and submit competitive proposal(s) for valve trim parts, valve trim re-engineered replacement parts, other associated valve component replacement parts and/or field service requests. Data submitted for estimating review may include written specifications, sketches, blueprints, bills of materials, sample layouts and labor and material pricing schedules, along with competitive schedules and data.

    PRIMARY FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Review, analyze and interpret customer specifications to determine replacement valve part requirements and build a cost/price estimate for the customer based on the to-be-supplied replacement parts and components.
    • Consolidate and cost-out total job using standard job costing practices or actual costs using a variety of costing methodologies.
    • If the need for outside vendor pricing is warranted, obtain information required and include the information in the proposal.
    • Prepare quote letter defining scope of work and provide comments and clarifications relative to the technical and/or commercial requirements and cost/price drivers.
    • Interface with other in-house groups including Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Quality Assurance, as required, regarding questionable specifications to meet customer compliance and customer delivery dates.
    • Match and cross check purchase orders against quote as applicable.
    • Prepare and maintain files for open orders and orders shipped.
    • Perform other functions as required by the local Operations/General Manager.

     

    Required Skills

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering or significant equivalent experience.
    • Background in valve and valve components and estimating most strongly preferred.
    • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in product estimating.
    • Must be customer-oriented and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
    • Knowledge of ASME, AISC and MSS Codes a plus.
    • Experience estimating field service RFQ’s a plus.
    • Ability to read and understand both written and oral instructions.
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

    Required Experience

    Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering or equivalent and three years of product estimating experience; or Associate’s degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering and seven years of product estimating experience; or ten years of product estimating experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Background in valve manufacturing or valve estimating most strongly preferred. Additional familiarity and experiences include but are not limited to:  

    • Industrial valves, valve trim and components. Valve function, operation and assembly a strong plus.
    • Tight tolerance machining of valve components or similarly tightly-toleranced precision machined components.
    • Estimating the cost to produce precision valve components and trim parts or other similar precision machined steel components.
    • Familiarity with welding process and metals fabrication methodologies.
    • Knowledge of or general familiarity of both standard and exotic metals and alloys.
    • Field service estimating a plus.
    • Understanding of costing and estimating methodologies.
