    PURPOSE/SCOPE:

    • The primary role of the Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is to provide support to all assigned suppliers in the areas of root cause problem-solving, internal & customer concern responses, engineering change requests (ECR), new product launches, and quality system improvements.
    • Provide direct leadership to the Receiving Inspection team & drive continuous improvement in related processes, procedures, techniques, and technologies.
    • Serve as support and back up to the other Quality Engineering roles in the department (customer quality engineers, production quality engineers and supplier quality engineers).
    • Promote a safe workplace by setting an example for fellow employees to follow by operating at all times in a manner compliant with all safety policies and requirements.

     

     GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Coordinate supplier concern responses including initial contact, containment, root cause analysis, action item follow up, completion of corrective action reports, PFMEA updates and ensuring internal & customer satisfaction.
    • Lead suppliers to drive cross functional problem solving and the implementation of robust corrective actions.
    • Work with Program Managers to support new product launches for assigned programs.
    • Educate suppliers on Trans-Matic’s quality requirements.
    • Work closely with the Purchasing function to support the evaluation of the supply base.
    • Coordinate supplier surveys and on-site assessments with the Supplier Development Engineer (SDE).
    • Support & review supplier PPAPs for assigned programs with special focus on failure prevention.
    • Support the development of inspection plans and criteria for new & changing products and outside services.
    • Support product quality on the floor in conjunction with the Customer (CQE) & Production Quality Engineers (PQE).
    • Manage the receiving inspection team (supervisor & quality specialists) and provide input into the annual budget & strategic planning activity for the group as related to headcount, training, hardware & technology investments.
    • Actively support departmental, plant level and corporate key metrics to accomplish meeting the annual strategic plan.
    • Investigate and process ECRs including coordination with the supply base, negotiation/approvals, and advanced quality planning for product changes.
    • Participate in the compliance of our Quality Management System by being an Internal Auditor.
    • Assist in evaluating and improving internal and supplier quality systems & procedures.
    • Coordinate with customers in conjunction with the customer quality engineer (CQE) to address outside processes that impact customer quality.

    Required Experience

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Quality, Manufacturing or Engineering or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
    • 5 years of experience working in a quality role in a manufacturing environment. (SQE experience preferred)
    • Strong computer skills (MS office, Mini-Tab etc.).
    • A working understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
    • A working knowledge of both Descriptive (mean, range, standard deviation, control charts etc.) and Inferential Statistics (sampling, capability, distribution, fit analysis, probability, etc.) to drive decision making.
    • Training & experience applying formal problem solving methodologies & tools.

     

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

    • Prior people leadership experience.
    • 5 years of experience in a Supplier Quality Engineering role.
    • Automotive APQP & PPAP experience.
    • Experience in the metal stamping industry.
    • ISO/TS experience including system auditing.
