    Summary/Objective

    Located in AccessLex Institute's Washington, DC office, the Academic Success Intern will report to the Director of Programs for Academic and Bar Success and will be a part of the AccessLex Center for Legal Education Excellence (the “Center”). The Academic Success Intern will assist the Director in reviewing and analyzing research on issues related to AccessLex’s strategic priorities, which include increasing first-time bar exam pass rates. The Intern will draft, edit, research and provide citations for internally produced articles, white papers, reports, presentations, blog posts, and newsletter entries. This is a part-time, temporary position. The Intern must be available up to 10 hours per week for 10-12 weeks between April or May 2020 and August 2020. Up to 30 hours per week will be available during the summer months. Exact hours will be determined based on Center needs and Intern availability. 

    Essential Functions

    • Contribute to the Center’s research and outreach agenda, with a focus on academic and bar success, law school access and affordability, and the value of legal education.
    • Contribute to the maintenance of the AccessLex Research Collection, which is a repository of research articles and other data on topics that are relevant to legal education.
    • Assist in conducting analyses on a variety of research projects using both internal and external data and communicating findings in succinct briefs.
    • Produce visually appealing and easily interpretable tables and graphical displays of statistical results for a variety of audiences.
    • Organize data into a variety of formats to permit for use to perform research and policy analysis.
    • Assist in production of technical reports and memorandum describing procedures, data collection, and/or research results.

    Required Skills

    Required Education and Experience

    Education

    • Law student who has completed at least the first year.

     Knowledge and Experience

    • Experience conducting legal research or editing academic articles is required.
    • A high level of skill in Bluebook or other citation styles is required.
    • Foundational knowledge of research methods is required;
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at a time is required;
    • Experience designing visually compelling slide decks and presentations are required.

    • Knowledge of legal and/or graduate education, student financial aid, or postsecondary education is preferred;
