    The State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio) is seeking an Associate Teacher to join the EX/HRS Child Care Services Department.     GENERAL SUMMARY: 

    Under the direction of the director, Child Care Services or a lead teacher, implement the planned activities that support the educational mission of the center, which is to create a quality program that fosters in each child a love of self, a love of learning and a respect for others in their classroom. Communicate closely with parents and maintain a safe, positive environment for children in the downtown Columbus State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio) child care facility.

     

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    1. Assist in planning, supervising and implementing developmentally appropriate activities in accordance with the philosophy of the center.
    2. Assist in providing a program with a balance of activities to promote cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of children.
    3. Encourage children’s participation by providing interactive activities.
    4. Maintain a safe, orderly environment which is conducive to learning.
    5. Keep parents informed by regularly communicating their child’s development,
    6. Encourage the development of children’s self-control by utilizing classroom management and modeling techniques.
    7. Protect families by keeping personal information confidential.
    8. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational trainings and maintaining required certifications, reviewing professional publications, and using innovating and state-of-the-art practices in accordance with the center’s philosophy.
    9. Know and abide by Ohio Department of Job and Family Services licensing rules and center policies and procedures.
    10. Assist in coordination of total childcare center activities.
    11. May substitute for the lead teacher.

    Required Skills

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    1. High School diploma or equivalent required.
    2. Associate's degree in child development or early childhood education preferred.
    3. One to three years’ experience in a childcare setting preferred.
    4. Ability to work with and preserve confidential information required.
    5. Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
    6. Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with internal and external contacts required.
    7. Excellent organizational skills, high degree of accuracy and attention to detail required to manage multiple tasks.
    8. Considerable standing, walking, bending, climbing and lifting. Ability to lift 25 pounds or more required.
    9. Prequireddegree of accuracy and attention to detail required. usly with internal and external contacts required.roven ability to operate Microsoft Office programs and standard office equipment required.
    10. Ability to work independently or in a team environment required.
    11. Excellent work record of attendance, punctuality and ability to maintain a flexible work schedule to meet business needs. Occasional evening, weekend and non-regular work hours may be required.
