    WE'RE LOOKING FOR A CREATIVE ADVOCACY DIRECTOR.

    LOCATION: Montgomery, AL / Birmingham, AL (Remote until June 2022)

    Alabama Values Progress (501c4) is a progressive communication hub seeking to amplify progressive voices and policies in Alabama.

    Our goal is to provide messaging and communications leadership and infrastructure to organizations and coalitions advocating to build power and break down barriers to civic participation for marginalized communities across the state.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

    Lead Statewide Earned Media Communication Efforts:

    • Develop and oversee an earned media program and work with core partners to uplift progressive voices and narratives across Alabama.
    • Assist with building and coordinating a coalition of communications leaders that meet regularly to strategize on joint efforts and evaluate the ability of Alabama’s progressive movement to deliver key messages and themes effectively.

    Partner Coordination and Support:

    • Provide media support — including rapid response, digital media, traditional media, and skills training for state advocacy partners and work with partner organizations to help them develop media strategies that complement their advocacy and organizing efforts.
    • Monitor daily news coverage regarding Alabama politics and contribute to the AV/AVP blog.
    • Collaborate with the Executive Director, Creative Advocacy Associate, and Social Impact Associate to develop and execute coordinated strategies for message development, earned media, and issue advocacy that is integrated with progressive community priorities.

    CANDIDATE SHOULD HAVE:

    • 2-3 years of experience working in political communications, social justice, or advocacy environments, with at least one year of experience working with external media outlets and social media.
    • Sense of humor and ability to work in a fast paced creative environment.
    • Experience using social listening and/or analytics/management software. i.e. FB Insights, Sprout Social, Meltwater.
    • Sharp understanding of political, organizing, and/or advocacy communications strategies, including traditional and digital media strategy and planning, that still balances creativity and different approaches to digital and communication work.
    • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to communicate complex issues in a way that resonates with Alabamians.
    • Strong commitment to social justice and social change.
