ABOUT THE JOB

The COMBUSTION PRODUCT ENGINEEr is the Product Technical Lead (PTL) who owns combustion product lines from design through customer experience. The Product Engineer is responsible for the design and maintenance of catalog products, and the design and development of new products. The Product Engineer applies engineering principles related to product design and/or enhancements that meet all required performance, cost, and schedule specifications. The Product Engineer works from conceptual ideas or variations of previous designs, leads the review, implementation, and approval of Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Notice (ECNs). This includes the responsibility for creating and maintaining records and related files such as manufacturing drawings, internal technical specifications, O&M manuals, and performance data.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Develop thermal- and electro-mechanical products by studying customer requirements; researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials; and soliciting observations from assemblers.

· Design thermal- and electro-mechanical products by conducting engineering and design programs and applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, combustion, heat transfer, and materials.

· Perform engineering calculations and analyses to predict combustion component/subsystem performance

· Confirm product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods.

· Develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components.

· Assure product quality by designing testing methods; testing finished product capabilities; and confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes.

· Review and sign off finished products.

· Create and maintain all revision-controlled engineering documentation (e.g. drawings and bills of materials) and all engineering controlled documents as they relate to the product lines (e.g. O&M manuals, QA sheets, work instructions, and forms).

· Champion product safety certification activities.

· Establish a strong focus on internal and external customer service.

· Perform daily product "walk throughs" to ensure smooth production operation.

· Pro-actively identify and resolve engineering issues and have a thorough understanding of shop practices.

· Lead and provide technical support and assist in resolution of manufacturing problems. Provide external technical and application support.

· Travel on site to assist customers with troubleshooting product performance related issues.

· Deliver product training to employees as needed.

· Pursue and support cost reduction activities such by implementing manufacturing improvements or qualifying alternate sourced components to achieve established company goals.

· Perform phone or on-site supplier audits. Perform first article inspections.

QUALIFICATIONS

· BS in mechanical engineering with 2-5 years of experience in an industrial product engineering field.

· Experience with the application of heat transfer, thermo-mechanical, hydraulic, combustion, and basic electrical engineering methods.

· Demonstrable experience owning a product from design through customer experience.

· Proficient in the application of 3D design tools (Solidworks preferred) in the creation of manufacturing and assembly drawings.

· Thorough understanding of drafting standards.

· Experience with the creation and management of engineering data in an ERP or MRP system.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office.

· Experience with the hands-on troubleshooting and problem solving. Ability to resolve technical and manufacturing issues without detailed direction and work as part of a team.

· Ability to work within strict deadlines, multitask, and prioritize multiple projects and assignments.

· Experience communicating across all levels of the organization, including presenting and participating in various meetings, for example technical and project design reviews.

· Strong technical writing skills, including proofreading and editing.
