    PRESIDENT AND CEO

    The WV Bankers Association is looking for a value-driven, multi-skilled, visionary leader, active in the banking industry, with a proven record of excellence in planning and management of operations and programs, and with extensive experience in government and public relations, and the skills to promote the objectives of the association to extend its membership and influence.  

    The successful candidate will serve in tandem with the existing president and CEO for a predetermined period of time.

    SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with experience.

    POSITION SUMMARY: The President and CEO determines and formulates policies and provides overall direction of the association within guidelines set up by the board of directors; plans, directs, and coordinates operational activities at the highest level of management with the help of subordinate executives and staff; serves as an advocate and champion regarding government and public relations.  Reports to the Association’s Board of Directors.

    PRIMARY WORK ACTIVITIES:

    • Participate with the Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic plan; creating, revising, amending, and implementing policies and procedures; preparing meeting agenda and supporting materials; identifying, assessing, and informing the Board of internal and external issues, and regularly providing comprehensive financial reports.  Responsible for fostering effective teamwork in the Board/CEO and CEO/staff relationships, and for conducting official correspondence on behalf of the Board as appropriate.
    • Develop an operational plan that incorporates goals and objectives that work towards the strategic direction of the organization, and that ensures that the operation of the Association meets the expectations of its members and complies with regulatory requirements and audit commitments.
    • Oversee the planning, implementation, day-to-day delivery, and the evaluation of the Association’s programs and services, and special projects, ensuring  that the programs, services, and special projects offered by the Association contribute to its mission and provide value to the members.
    • Direct the financial operations of the Association, including preparing the annual budget for the association and for its for-profit subsidiary.  Responsible for ensuring adequate funding for the operation of the organization, and for cash management and the opening and closing of interest bearing and non-interest-bearing accounts.
    • Maintain a proactive member service and outreach program that prioritizes Bank and Associate Members recruitment, engagement, and retention, and that incorporates marketing membership through value propositions, including benefits and incentives. Responsible for ensuring consistent communication with members to keep them informed of the work of the Association, establishing good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with members and other stakeholders.  Requires conducting regular bank visits to hear concerns, identify member needs, and discuss opportunities for improvement of the Association’s programs, products, projects, services, and government relations.
    • Administer, develop, and/or implement human resources planning and management, including staffing requirements, human resource policies, procedures and practices, job descriptions, work flows / priorities, regulatory compliance, conflict management, and employee engagement.
    • Supervise / manage / direct the recruitment, selection, orientation, training, development, appraisals, and work assignments of personnel.  Establish a positive, healthy, and safe work environment.  Confer with the Association’s Employee Compensation and Benefits Committee as needed.
    • Manage endorsed partner relationships including identifying partners to help fulfill industry needs through superior offerings, negotiating contracts, defining marketing plans, educating members about new product offerings, and evaluating performance of all endorsed partners.
    • Develop / administer / implement government and outside relationships by tracking and monitoring a wide range of legislative, regulatory, and legal issues; cultivating and maintaining critical political relationships; advocating on behalf of the banking industry with members of the West Virginia legislature, Congress and staffs, state and federal regulators, media, and other key audiences.  Help shape public policy through grassroots activism and the Association’s political action committee; maintain effective relationships with other state and national association executives; and respond to media inquiries as needed on banking industry perspectives and issues.

    MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

    • Master’s degree (M.A.) or equivalent; or four (4) to ten (10) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
    • Active in the banking industry with experience in government relations preferred.
    • A Valid Driver’s License
    • The knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Generally works in a well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.  Sometimes works outdoors but in an enclosed vehicle protected from extreme weather conditions.

    The physical activity of this position is considered LIGHT PHYSICAL ACTIVITY performing non-strenuous daily activities of an administrative nature.

    TRAVEL: Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) by land and/or air.
