    Job Description

    POSITION SUMMARY 

    Plan, coordinate and direct quality assurance program designed to ensure quality production of products consistent with established standards by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop, maintain and implement the company’s quality manual in accordance with ISO 9001: 2008 quality standards and all support documentation.
    • Partner with the business leadership team to drive product quality through critical metrics, trend analysis and implementation of improvement initiatives for the total product life cycle.
    • Formulate and maintain quality assurance objectives complementary to corporate policies and goals.
    • Interpret quality assurance philosophy to key personnel in organization.
    • Keep management team abreast of significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and audits.                      
    • Review technical problems and procedures of departments and recommend solutions or changes in procedures.
    • Apply statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate current processes and recommend process changes/improvements.
    • Visit and confer with representatives of material and component suppliers to obtain information related to supply quality, capacity of supplier to meet orders and supplier quality standards.
    • Review all data obtained during all quality assurance activities to ensure consistency with company policies and procedures.                              
    • Develop, maintain and issue non-conforming reports.
    • Develop, maintain and issue quality status report on open corrective action.
    • Develop, maintain and issue quality audit reports.
    • Develop new approaches to solve problems identified during quality assurance activities.
    • Develop, maintain and implement the company’s quality manual and all support documentation.
    • Maintain a working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards.
    • Play an active role on quality management teams within the organization.
    • Design and implement quality assurance training programs to key personnel.
    • Investigate customer complaints regarding quality and report your evaluation.
    • Analyze, evaluate and present information concerning business situations, production capabilities, manufacturing problems, economic trends and design and development of reliability programs for new & existing products in cooperation with other members of management team.
    • Prepare product certifications.
    • Monitor production and inspection of products to ensure compliance with Allied’s quality manual and customer requirements.
    • Receiving, inspection and gauge calibration.
    • Verify and insure that products are identified and placed into appropriate storage location; assist with inventory, Pick/Pack and Call Center with inventory issues.
    • Write or record work instructions for processes.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Directly supervises employees in the Quality Assurance department.  He/she carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Scientific discipline from a four-year college or university; or 7+ years increasingly more responsible experience working in a Quality Management role in a regulated interface and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations and the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  This person should have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.  He/she must have the skills and ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, government agencies and/or boards of directors.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.                   

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    COMPUTER SKILLS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have good typing and computer skills including a strong proficiency of Microsoft Office software, navigating the internet and proficiency with MAS200/MAS90 preferred.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    To perform this job successfully Six Sigma certification and professional certification in Quality Assurance or Regulatory Affairs preferred.

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    To perform the job successfully one must have good mechanical aptitude and the ability to use measuring devices.  Must have good leadership skills, be able to motivate and set to lead others toward some common objective or to carry out their responsibilities at a high level.  Must have the ability to “read people’ and understand what motivates others, or to determine that they are not right for our operations.   Strong communication skills are also required, both verbally and written with a diverse audience.  The ability to plan, organize and prioritize work and departmental budgets.  Work effectively and accurately with close attention to detail and the ability to draw conclusions quickly.  This individual must have strong interpersonal skills along with the ability to positively influence others and be capable and willing to make difficult decisions.  Must demonstrate the ability to see beyond the current situation and develop a vision and plan for future improvements. Strong problem solving skills and mechanical aptitude required.  Must demonstrate knowledge of lean manufacturing and Six Sigma preferred.  Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.  Strong knowledge of quality systems and methodologies (ISO/TQM/Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing) required.  Experience building a Quality Management System from the ground up preferred.  Knowledge of Military Specifications e.g. MIL-PRF-38534 preferred.

    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

    Quality Assurance Manager must display leadership abilities and behaviors and have previous supervisory experience.  Experience with manufacturing purchasing, lean manufacturing and Six Sigma or material management all a plus.  Work effectively, professionally and tactfully with a diverse workforce, leaders, outside companies and public agencies. Must have the confidence and presence to represent the Company and be a spokesman for the Company when among others from the community or other businesses in the area.  The ability to travel as needed and to legally drive a company vehicle is required.  Previous experience in in a manufacturing/engineering environment is required and a degree.  Strong problem solving skills and mechanical aptitude required.
