    In the position of Developer/Trainer, the incumbent will support the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) in driving change and training/communicating how data can be integrated, controlled, distributed, and accessed by programs, business units and operators across the enterprise.

    Smartronix is seeking an enthusiastic developer and coder with the desire to mentor, instruct, and coach others to harness data through coding. The individual will support the NAVAIR Digital Group to assemble a “Learn to Code” program using existing learning and instructional resources for the NAVAIR workforce. This individual will mentor and instruct employees during and after their code training to assist them in the practical use and application in the workplace.

    The ideal candidate is someone who understands the role of data, appreciates and values the coding world, and can inspire the workforce to understand the freedom coding can allow to work faster in support of the Fleet – through software upgrades, reverse engineering, system analysis, etc. Through coaching, online discussion forums, labs, and instructor-led sessions, this individual will work with the NDG to assess skill gaps and find ways to bridge student’s knowledge between the learning environment and practical on-the-job application of these skills.

    Selected candidate will be responsible for computer program training, and will create, modify and test code, forms, and scripts. May assist in analyzing user needs and designing software solutions.

    Tasks may include:

    • Classroom or workshop training sessions.
    • Online phone and/or virtual training, coaching, mentoring sessions.
    • Modifying application programs from detailed specifications including code, test, debug, documentation processes.
    • Developing, modifying, and maintaining assigned programs, design and implement modifications. 
    • Respond to problems by diagnosing and correcting errors in logic and coding.
    • Implement and/or maintains assigned portions of a scientific programming project, apply established scientific programming techniques to well-defined mathematical, statistical, engineering, or other problems usually requiring the translation of mathematical notation into processing logic and code.
    • Design or architect software or data solutions in support of training or NDG needs.
    • Most tasks will be executed as part of a training or mentoring process with other NAVAIR employees.

    Required Experience

    Experience with several of the following skills and tools are desired:

    • Understanding of traditional and agile software development lifecycle
    • NET (ASP and C#), ColdFusion 9 and ColdBox framework
    • Oracle Designer, PL/SQL procedures and SQL scripts, Toad and SQL Plus
    • Data Warehouse tools including Business Objects, ETL, and Informatica
    • Java, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, Web Standards, Web Services, AJAX and Front-End Design.
    • PHP, Ruby, ColdFusion or other web application language a plus.
    • Web services experience, Protocols such as: SOAP, WSDL, UDDI, XML-RPC, etc.
    • DreamWeaver, Homesite+, Eclipse, Visual Studio or other development environments.
    • SQL server or Query Analyzer, or Oracle 10g.
    • Ability to operate in an embedded Government/Contractor team environment.
    • 3-5 years of experience using python, C++, VBA, SQL, Matlab, R-Studio
    • Teaching/Coaching experience preferred
    • Knowledge of NAVAIR and DoD environment preferred.
