Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist Director of Finance with full-cycle general accounting and month-end close duties, and preparation of monthly and annual financial statements including G/L account reconciliation and variance analysis.
- Evaluate and prepare standard and non-recurring monthly journal entries to properly record all accounting transactions in accordance with GAAP.
- Review journal entry transactions posted by Director of Finance.
- Assist with metrics for daily and weekly tracking of operational performance for department managers.
- Assist Director of Finance with overall operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll; hire, train and retain staff.
- Review and support Staff Accountant with accounts payable processes, including vendor invoice verification, coding and payment processing; as well, with accounts receivable functions including customer invoicing, revenue reconciliation, collections and payment application.
- Support Payroll processing by providing review of supporting gratuities, commissions and service charge worksheets, as well as review of payroll register prior to transmission of payroll.
- Assist and review monthly bank reconciliations for accuracy and completeness.
- Assist with worksheets and schedules for budget and documentation for year-end financial audit.
- Identify Opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements in accounting procedures
Job Skills/Requirements/Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent experience.
- Candidate MUST have 5+ years of experience as a Controller in a hospitality/hotel setting.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and functional knowledge in accounting software, specifically Sage 100.
- Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial data management.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
Working conditions/ Physical requirements
- Schedule is Monday – Friday 8am-5pm with a one-hour meal break. Remote or hybrid work arrangement is not an option.
- Typical office environment, with occasional exposure to the environments for employee events.
- Have the ability to interact with employees and customers in a professional and courteous manner despite occasional periods of stress.
- Have the ability to frequently sit at a computer, potentially for extended periods of time.
- Have the ability to occasionally lift and or carry objects up to 25 lbs.
- Have the ability to climb stairs.
- Have the stamina to stand and flexibility to stretch, reach, bend, stoop, squat, and kneel during the work shift as the work dictates.
