    The Almaden Valley Athletic Club (AVAC) is seeking a deeply passionate individual who cares about healthy living and is excited about leading a team who will impart that passion on others. AVAC Trainers and Coaches care for hundreds of our members ages 9 to 99, in our upscale, updated, indoors and outdoors, UV disinfected Fitness Centers. Through personal training, lifestyle and nutrition consultation, small group sessions, we enrich lifestyles daily.

    AVAC’s Fitness Director is responsible for managing all aspects of the Fitness Department including personal training, small group, nutrition, specialty programs, and Pilates. The primary goal is to grow the percentage of AVAC members who participate in AVAC fitness programs. The way the Director does this is by leading a stellar team to provide 1x1, group trainings, bootcamps, demos, fitness events, consultations, and much more quarterly. Additionally, the Director is responsible for identifying facility and equipment needs, delivering typical daily member services, and utilizing member scheduling and account software. The Fitness Director executes independent judgment with minimal supervision, sets the vision for AVAC Fitness, collaborates with the AVAC Management Team, and is accountable for running a profitable department. The Fitness Director reports directly to the General Manager of Operations.

    Compensation:

    Our desire is to compensate the Fitness Director at $80,000 or more per year. The way this is achieved is through a combination of the following:

    · Base salary $63,000

    · ~10 hours of personal training or specialty programming per week. The Director earns 55%, with room to increase both the % and the number of hours based on performance.

    · 10% sales commission on new fitness packages assigned to trainers

    · Annual profit-sharing based on the performance of AVAC and the AVAC Fitness Department

    Additionally, AVAC offers a comprehensive benefits package including a stipend for continuing education, health, dental, vision, paid holidays, paid time off, Simple IRA, AVAC discounts, and an AVAC membership.

    Minimum Requirements: Experience, Knowledge, and Competencies

    The preferred experience of the Fitness Director:

    · 5 years’ experience in the fitness industry with progressively increasing responsibilities.

    · Proven success in planning, organizing, and executing profitable fitness programs for a variety of ages, interests, and abilities

    · Experience in leading others.

    The preferred knowledge of the Fitness Director:

    · Intermediate skills in word processor, spreadsheet, accounting software, and databases.

    · Ability to draft professional letters, press releases, newsletter articles, descriptions of programs and other marketing/customer service material.

    Core competencies required of the Fitness Director:

    a. The ability to influence others in a motivational manner. Basic knowledge of leadership/management principles and the ability to apply them to daily scenarios. Ability to identify different needs of staff and direct, coach, support, or delegate effectively based on the need. Ability to instruct various ages and levels of comprehension and assess the outcomes of the learning experience

    a. Able to speak and write in English in a professional manner. Effectively influences, motivates, mediates, and informs using a variety of communication mediums.

    a. Has a long term, insightful view of the fitness industry and health and fitness programming, and uses this to focus AVAC Fitness. Knowledgeable of emerging and future trends that will affect AVAC Fitness. Able to clearly envision and communicate the future of the AVAC Fitness.

    a. Driven to obtain top results for the AVAC Fitness. Ensures actions that result in meeting AVAC Fitness goals. Provides persistent focus on quality as well as results. Is member driven.

    1. Service

    a. Understands values and practices of successful service organizations. Sets the example for staff in delivering exceptional customer service even and especially under high-stress circumstances. Has the ability to view AVAC, its staff, facilities, and programs through the eyes of a customer and adjust service procedures based on that view.

    1. Organization and Detail Oriented

    a. The ability to manage many important details when keeping track of customer and employee records and requests. Quickly and accurately compiles and reports data. Manages stress well when demand for services is high
