Alternatives for People with Autism is a non-profit organization that provides residential services to individuals disabled by autism and other mental disorders. The Living Skills Instructor is a direct support professional position that works with residents on a daily basis, implementing programs and procedures, teaching and maintaining new skills, and running behavioral protocol. The position is responsible for maintaining the flow of daily life while providing enrichment for the individuals they are working with. Staffing is typically 1-on-1 or 1-on-2. Duties/Responsibilities Client Interaction: Assisting in task, leisure, and recreational activities Accompanying residents on community outings Administering medications, accompanying residents to appointments Programming: Running programs properly and keeping up to date on changes Records data properly and accurately Knowledge and correct implementation of reinforcement principles Communication: Maintains open lines of communication with other staff and supervisors, both written and verbal Attends meetings and in-service workshops Housekeeping/Maintenance: Assists residents in maintaining a clean and healthy living environment Assists residents with food preparation and cleaning
