
Registered Nurse – Operating Room (OR)
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse – Operating Room (OR) is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting patient care in accordance with professional nursing standards, physician orders, and organizational policies.
This role provides safe, evidence-based perioperative nursing care, collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, and promotes positive patient outcomes throughout the surgical experience. The RN also supports patient and family education, quality improvement initiatives, and staff development.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients' physical, psychological, social, and discharge planning needs.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.
- Deliver safe perioperative care in accordance with physician orders and clinical standards.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust care plans as needed.
- Coordinate care with physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Educate patients and families regarding procedures, recovery, and ongoing care.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete patient documentation.
- Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
- Support staff orientation, mentoring, and professional development when assigned.
- Comply with all organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and professional nursing standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Associate Degree, Diploma in Nursing, or higher.
Licensure
- Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice (or Compact RN license, where applicable).
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Additional Certification
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 90 days of hire for positions assigned to pediatric ambulatory surgery services.
Experience
Full-Time / Part-Time
- Minimum 1 year of licensed RN Operating Room experience , or
- Enrollment in the PeriOp 101 Program with successful completion within 4 months of hire.
PRN
- Minimum 2 years of licensed RN Operating Room experience.
Preferred
- Additional Operating Room or perioperative nursing experience.
