Maintenance - Automation & Controls Specialist - Manufacturing
JOB SUMMARY:
Perform general maintenance and preventive/predictive maintenance on a variety of blow mold, auxiliary and plant support equipment. Ideal candidate will have experience with Automation and Controlls with the ability to maintain, install and replace automation systems throughout the production process, including PLC pgramming. Individual is required to have proven knowledge and skill of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulics and procedure to troubleshoot, perform preventive maintenance and complete necessary repairs. The overall goal is to assist in minimizing downtime due to breakdown repairs and PMs and to optimize the quality of products manufactured to the highest degree equipment is capable of producing.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Maintains and repairs blow mold equipment, auxiliary and support equipment using mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulics skills for safe and continuous operation.
Ability to apply knowledge of each technical requirement below;
a) Read and interpret electrical schematics and identify symbols and control circuits with a high degree of competency.
b) Understand and troubleshoot PLC program and logic is required.
c) Strong ability to trouble-shoot electrical circuits.
d) Able to install PLCs, change motors, install relays and starters, install control circuits.
Hydraulic Skills:
a) Read and interpret hydraulic schematics and identify symbols and control circuits. b) Troubleshoot hydraulic circuits.
c) Capable of repairing, changing or upgrading equipment.
a) Able to perform preventative maintenance on all types of equipment represented in the plant.
b) Knowledge of refrigeration, drying, conveying, fluid pumps, blowing and vacuum pumps, pneumatic circuits and welding.
Inspects product for quality defects. Has authority to stop production due to quality issues, including raw materials.
Maintains housekeeping of all assigned areas. This includes cleaning up after making repairs and applying Good Manufacturing Practices to meet plant goals.
Is responsible to remain on each assignment until the job is complete or until released by Manager. 6. Follows all established safety rules and guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook and as trained during the various safety-related training programs. Identifies and communicates all hazards and safety issues to co-workers and managers/production coordinators. Properly uses all personal protective equipment.
Performs other related duties as directed by the Maintenance Manager or shift Production Coordinator and be willing to perform other duties as assigned that may not necessarily fall within the
scope of the duties outlined above.
Job Specifications and Requirements:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Post-secondary education preferred (i.e., Technical or Vocational education; Associates in Maintenance or Industrial/Electrical/Mechanical -related degree)
Previous machine maintenance work experience in a manufacturing environment.
Supervisory or Management experience is a plus.
1. Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent, some college, technical or vocational education required.
Previous manufacturing work experience is required.
Forklift driving experience
Efficient and effective computer use and related software.
Good written and verbal communications skills are required.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Able to recognize and understand numbers and values, including data entry into database.

Ability to make priority decisions and independent judgment calls based on the situation at hand.
• Demonstrates schedule flexibility for coverage for vacations and other absences.
• Possesses the desire for continuing education, within the job position requirements and or personal enrichment.
Demonstrates proficiency through experience and/or certificates in at least FOUR (4) of the following trades:
o Welding
o Electronics
o Air Compressor
o Blow Molding
o Micrometers
o Machine Shop
o Hydraulics
o Refrigeration
o Packaging Maintenance
o Calipers
o Electrical Maintenance
o Programmable Logic Controller
o Injection Molding
o Building maintenance
Able to stand and walk up to 12-hours on concrete or other hard surfaces.
Occasionally required to lift/push/carry up to 70 lbs. (this is a heavy physical demand job as outlined by the U.S. Department of Labor.)
push/pull up to 900 lbs. using a hydraulic hand jack (this is the equivalent of a static push/pull of approximately 70 lbs.
Occasionally team lift up to 120 lbs.
Must be able to lift, bend and twist repetitively during shift.
Must be able to bend under 4-foot bottle conveyor.
Must also be able to climb stairs/ladders up to 15 feet high.
Frequent and effective dexterity in fingers and hands to operate hand tools.
• Proficient hand / eye coordination to operate equipment and controls.
Be able to lift/reach overhead with a 7 pound top frame off stack and place on bulk pallet configuration approximately every 10 to 15 minutes; reach across palletizer bed 54” to 60” to straighten/pick up fallen bottles continuously when operating bulk palletizer.
Continuous noise from 70 to 102dB

Level of Authority:
Coworkers have the right to hold for inspection, any product that they feel does not meet customer, company or product safety specifications.
Those coworkers with authorized training can shut down/stop equipment if continued operation is a threat to any coworker’s health and safety.
Stop production for unacceptable quality or product safety concern.
Quarantine out-of-specification products, materials or supplies.
