SUMMARYAmerican Bakers Association (ABA) is a national trade association that represents over 300 Baker and Allied member companies, such as Flowers Foods, Bimbo Bakeries, Pepperidge Farm, Kroger, Treehouse Foods, and other wholesale bakeries of all sizes. Together, ABA member companies manufacture over 85% of the wholesale baked goods sold in the United States. ABA plays a leading role and makes a significant impact as the voice of the baking industry on issues relating to agriculture, labeling, and nutrition. ABA is a co-owner and show operator of the International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE). IBIE is held in Las Vegas every three years and gathers the baking community to fuel the next generation of bakers, promote economic growth, to learn and advance the future of baking together. The International Baking Industry Exposition is the largest baking trade show held in North America that showcases the industry’s latest technologies, equipment, and new product introductions. The 2022 show is expected to draw approximately 1,000 exhibitors and 23,000 baking professionals. The Intern position is managed by the Senior Director of Meetings and Education. It is a position intended to give an active student or recent graduate (within three months of graduation) a tradeshow specific work experience and insights into many aspects of trade association event planning. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE)Assist the Sr. Director in the planning and execution of several aspects of IBIE, to include:Corporate Meeting ProgramIBIE staff office meal room and meal planningStudent Immersion Program event activitiesShow feature activitiesRegistrationAssist in the preparation and onsite support of the Global Baking Night VIP receptionProvide support in post-IBIE wrap-up activities, to include:Collect and prepare vendor invoices for paymentSurvey Corporate Meeting Program participants Required Education and Experience Interns must be actively enrolled in a hospitality or events focused bachelor’s degree program at an accredited higher education institution or within three months of graduation by September 2022.Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word required.Proficiency or exposure to registration software a plus (Cvent, etc.) Core Competencies/Skills Experience in a hotel or event planning setting.Excellent customer-service ethic and responsiveness. Strong interpersonal skills.Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.Flexibility with taking on new tasks and completing all assigned work in a timely fashion.Excellent organizational skills. Must be detail-oriented and a strong multi-tasker.
