    About the ABF

    The American Bar Foundation (ABF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit research institute that expands knowledge and advances justice through rigorous empirical research on law, legal processes, and legal institutions. The ABF's primary sources of funding are an annual grant from the American Bar Endowment (ABE) and contributions by the Fellows of the ABF. The Fellows is a global honorary society of attorneys, judges, faculty, and scholars whose careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the highest principles of the legal profession. The ABF offices are located on Northwestern University's Chicago campus in Streeterville.

    Position Overview

    The ABF invites applications from candidates who are seeking an opportunity to grow their nonprofit development experience and donor stewardship. The Development Coordinator will report to the Chief Development Officer and will be responsible for a variety of tasks as part of a team that generates more than $2 million annually for the ABF through gifts from Fellows of the ABF.

    _Key _**Responsibilities **

    Recruitment (50%)

    • Contribute to Fellows recruitment efforts by researching print and online for prospective nominees

    • Assist with monthly nominee invitations by helping to process Raiser's Edge database imports, cleaning and updating data, printing materials, and coordinating mailings

    • Run Raiser's Edge database queries and send follow-up emails to nominees

    • Update monthly state reports to track Fellows vacancies

    Development & Donor Services (15%)

    • Assist with Fellows phone and email inquiries

    • Process weekly new Fellows welcome packets

    • Staff Fellows events at ABA Midyear and Annual Meetings

    Administrative (35%)

    • Process returned mail and update constituent records in Raiser's Edge database

    • Update website content including lists of New Fellows, New Life Fellows, and In Memoriam sections, monthly and as needed

    • Assist with Fellows events administration and marketing (e.g., invitation lists, event reminders, printing name tags and materials, tracking attendance in Raiser's Edge)

    • Assist with tracking materials inventory and re-order as necessary

    • Periodically assist with processing gift entry, event registrations, and profile updates in Raiser's Edge database

    • Be responsive to requests from other managers and work collaboratively with colleagues across all departments of the ABF

    Required Qualifications

    • Associate's degree or equivalent.

    • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite products, especially with Excel and mail merge tools.

    • Superb organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

    • Ability to track and manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

    • Strong customer service skills, especially on the telephone.

    • Fluency in English.

    • Commitment to the ABF's mission and to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

    • Must maintain valid U.S. work authorization and Illinois residency throughout employment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with Raiser's Edge or other fundraising databases.
    • Experience working in a professional office environment.
    • Experience interacting with attorneys, judges, scholars, and academic professionals.

    Work Structure and Environment

    This is a full-time (35 hours per week), non-exempt position. ABF employees are expected to work at the ABF offices at least two days per week and to work within the state of Illinois on the other days. Candidates must be able to move boxes weighing up to 20 pounds across the office for various needs. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with a one-hour lunch period. Occasional work outside of these hours is expected in connection with ABF events (e.g., Board meetings). Out-of-state travel is required for this position up to twice a year.

    Compensation and Benefits

    Based on comparative market data, the anticipated salary for this position is $46,000. Full-time administrative staff benefits include:

    • 35-hour work week, plus early-dismissal Summer Fridays
