    ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

    The Acute Rehabilitation Center (ARC) Medical Director is responsible for the medical direction of the Hospital’s Acute Rehabilitation Center at PIH Health – Whittier Hospital. This includes directing medical care and participating in the improvement and development of the department. The Director provides professional medical direction, education to peer and staff, as well as acts as a resource to the Hospital’s Administration, Medical Staff, and community. Additionally, the Medical Director assists in program development, maintains patient volume, participates in capital budget preparation and advises management on issues related to the specialty.

    Required Skills

    • Clinical expertise within Rehabilitative Medicine
    • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of Transitions of Care and the benefit PIH Health provides within the integrated delivery system.
    • Experience with PI/CQI processes and systems, including identification and implementation of evidence based medicine and best practice(s).
    • Experience in leading the interdisciplinary team in providing Rehabilitative Care, alleviating psycho-social stress, addressing spirit.
    • Ability to provide comprehensive patient assessments evaluate explain, teach, and problem solve using critical thinking.
    • Organizational skills and personal leadership qualities including tact and diplomacy, necessary to coordinate all aspects of the program and to integrate the efforts of the hospital, medical staff, program faculty and staff. Ability to objectively evaluate peers’ professional practice.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal and conflict resolution abilities.
    • Ability to strategize, forecast to meet the annual budget.
    • Demonstrates inquisitiveness and does not just accept the way things are; questions the status quo for the sake of ensuring best practice and making improvements.
    • Understands potential impacts and consequences of decision making in situations including inter-dependencies between departments within the enterprise.
    • Understands broad systems connections—potential impacts and consequences of decisions in a wide variety of situations both internal and external.
    • Has full knowledge of Medicare Conditions of Participation; Title 22 regulations of the State of California; Joint Commission standards as related to departments under responsibility.
    • Has full knowledge of Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Prospective Payment System and Quality Reporting Program regulatory requirements.

     

     COMMUNICATION

    • Talking or hearing essential to communicate with patients and staff.
    • Good communication skills; read, speaks and writes English fluently.
    • Bilingual skills in Spanish/Chinese preferred.

     

     

    Required Experience

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

    • Licensed Physician in the State of California
    • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy
    • Minimum of 2 years of training and experience in the medical management of inpatients requiring rehabilitation services
    • Provides services to the rehabilitation unit and to units inpatients for at least 20 hours per week
    • Current DEA license as applicable to specialty
    • Minimum of five (5) years of medical staff leadership experience
    • Active member, in good standing with the Medical Staff
